Is this a good price?

I'll make a long story a really short one: I am looking at buying a friend of the family's '92 Pearl, which is in really stand up shape with 86k on the odometer, and I don't know what to expect to pay. I payed $3400 for my 92 four years ago, so I'm not really sure what they are worth these days.

The details:
1992 SVX, pearl white, newish dunlop tires, 86k, working ac, good paint, good leather, 3-4 owners? The gentleman is about 60 years old and is a good personal friend but wants $4500 for it...which I think is a little steep for a '92. Not to mention that the car has an unknown electrical drain issue, where the battery will die if the car is left with either or both battery terminals connected, multiple visits to the shop and many new batteries have not fixed this apparently.

So given its good condition (except for the possibly large electrical problem) and the fact it is a '92, what is a reasonable amount for me to offer him?

edmunds says about $1600 without an electrical problem. KBB and ebay will disagree.

4500 does sound a little steep but I havent seen it in person.

no doubt its a pretty car, but then there is that mechanical problem. And yes, Edmunds and TMV (True Market Value) would tell you that its way off, but KBB says $4300 without the problem. So im not really sure what to think about it...

Somewhere in the middle seems like reasonable middle ground.

I'm Wondering if I could offer him $3000 as is and that would be considered reasonable.

if it looks really good that sounds close to descent deal. Lowball at first tell him 2750 to give you some extra room to play

Im not sure what the draw could be. I havent run into that problem yet. normally on volvos its a module not going to sleep. A good way to locate it is hook up a amp meter in series with the ground side of the battery and start pulling fuses untill your current drops to around .250 amps or lower.

im sure someone on here has experienced a similar issue and can give more accurate advice.

A car in good shape with good paint and no major problems is probably worth $3,500 to $4,500, with that many miles. It may be the alternator that is going and has a drain in it. I don't think it should be anything major though. Good luck with the car.

Little tip my cousin gave me....might help you out a bit. Go into the fuse box(s) at night, when its nice and dark. With everything off, pull a fuse and see if it sparks. It it does, then there's current flowing through that circuit when there shouldnt be. Thatll help narrow down your draw..and if its a fuse for something not necicarry, you can just pull it for a temporary fix. might even be something as simple as them damn sunvisor wires bein shorted (a crewdriver and 2 minutes will find that problem)

4,000 is plenty reasonable for a car with that low of miles, even if it does have a minor nuiciance of an electrical problem. I would feel like a crook offering much less...Im sure the car was well cared for

The NADA Fair market price is $3825, which I think is reasonable I'm going to offer him that.

Just bought a creampuff

Was fortunate to find one right in my own backyard. A 92 Pearl with 147K, mint condition except A/C needs conversion to R134a. Two careful adult owners. Previous owner blank checked the car, spending $7K to keep everything in perfect working order. Came with three original transmitters, vinyl SVX owner's portfolio and owner's manual, SVX accessories booklet, original tire booklet, etc., even the 23 minute VHS tape showing features. Leather is perfect, sunroof works flawlessly, visors don't droop, transmission recently rebuilt. I did not even haggle the price, reason why is because I only paid $2K. From what I've been reading, that's probably underpriced. But I sure do love this car, even with its checkered history. It's so fun to drive and no one seems to know what it is. Congrats to everyone who owns one.

3800 is a fair offer. Granted...you could stumble on some pretty insane deals if you wait out, but if thats the svx you want, go for it! Better to say you paid 3800 than to say you wish you bought it

I paid $3800 for a 93 Anniversary Edition with a salvage title (77k) thought I stole it for what I got. I love the car.
