If it is on your property you can claim title for abandoned vehicle

Just a thought
An abandoned vehicle (46.2-1200) is any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer or parts of a motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer that:

is inoperable and is left unattended on public property, other than an interstate highway or primary highway, for more than 48 hours, or
has remained illegally on public property for more than 48 hours, or
has remained more than 48 hours on private property without the consent of the property owner, regardless of whether it was brought onto the private property with the consent of the owner or person in control of the private property, or
is inoperable, left unattended, or both, on the interstate highway or on the shoulder of a primary highway.

If a vehicle is abandoned on private property (46.2-1208), the property owner can request ownership information from DMV by completing the form CRD93 and paying a $8.00 fee. Upon receipt of the ownership information, the property owner is responsible for notifying all persons having interest in the vehicle (i.e., lienholder, owner), of the vehicle's status by registered or certified mail, (return receipt requested) and advising them to reclaim and remove their vehicle within thirty days. If this does not occur, the property owner may apply for a certificate of title in his name.

Which city in VA was the car last registered in? I met a quite a few SVX owners in VA and the surrounding states, but a red fwd SVX isn't ringing a bell - only guy I know with one is Walter James (poweredx2) who lives in NC. But he still owns his...

In If it is on your property you can not claim title for abandoned vehicle WV or MD

Using Mark5's information I contacted both MD and WV and both states said NO.
In WV it has to go to Sheriffs sale and anyone can bid on it!
In MD it has to get a salvaged title after it goes to a junkyard!
Maybe I'll tow it to Marks house in Ohio.

I didnt get a chance to go to DMV yet we are kinda busy at work. I got the carfax right here and it says it was last registerd in norfolk VA in 3/11/04 with 183,855 miles on it. I should call but ive got a phone phobia thing I hate calling id rather just stop by DMV. It would be best to stop by with a title though anyone know someone in Norfolk VA? whoever it is obviously doesnt care that they dont have the car cause it hasnt been reported stolen or anything. what if they are deceased

I met zero SVXers from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. There was a beautiful low mileage Laguna Blue '95 SVX for sale down there almost 1 year, but when I called the car had already been sold.

Not Good

Got a chance to go to DMV. The information desk told me I cant do anything without a title . I asked her about the abaondon vehicle route she told me no. my last option I guess is junkyard salvage title, if possible. I dont plan on selling it so who cares if title says salvage. I wouldnt mind forking over the 350 bux but i just took out a second mortgage and got some land. If the junkyard title is a no go plan on a sweet parts car coming soon the friggen visors dont even droop.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
say it isnt so!!!

all a person has to do is buy a TOTALED svx (preferably through svx net!!)
that never got processed through insurance.....
ie: "joe blow" smashes his car in a snow storm and pays 50 bucks to have it towed to his driveway to "fix it someday"

you buy the car for 100$ just to get the clean title(and another parts car!)

and swap vins

i KNOW "thats not how yer 'sposed to do things"

BUT !!

if a person is keeping the car and the 100$ wreck has clean title, who cares?!?

i've drilled out the rivets holding different honda vin tags in place(on dashboard) just so i could swap interior colours.........

i havent looked at my svx tag yet(too busy getting it the road!!)

but assuming its rivetted on.....

and even if not rivetted.i'm sure it could be swapped.heck just change the whole dash !!

as for chassis#'s not matching.that could be changed too........"the authoritys"(what an oxymoron for the government!!)........the authroities wont notice unless the car is stolen and recovoered......and even then, an owner can show chain of ownership via the bill of sale and "play dumb" and just explain you swapped interiors due to cleanliness/damage whatever......

as for chassis #'s, they can be explained by the owner mixing/matching parts to get the car back on the road.......

just a thought.........
