Choice of Replacement Transmission?

I’ve got 3 SVXi, one with a stock transmission in excellent condition, a 5-speed and one with a stock transmission that needs to be replaced. I’m trying to decide if I want another 5-speed or a 4.44 EAT. The stock transmission car is my daily driver and the 5-speed is my wife’s daily driver and I don’t get to drive her car very dang often.

I’ve never even been in a 4.44 EAT car let alone driven one but there’s a lot of really good things said about them here.

On the other hand, I really like the 5-speed, even with it’s few glitches. We have to “baby” the gas at low speeds in 1st gear or it tends to buck quite a bit and all shifts require caution or we get a bang (feels like too sudden an engagement of the rear differential). I don’t know if that’s normal for a 5-speed swap either.

So I guess my questions are these: What complaints do members with 4.44 EATs have and what complaints do members with 5-speeds have? What do members like most about their transmissions?
