Center dash lineup

Okay...So I have replaced my dashboard with one of apropriate color...And althought it has been in a while, it doesnt line up correctly. PArticularly where the ash tray mounts. It sits crooked, and too far up. It interferes with the cd cage's operation. I noticed a rather large metal clip looking thing, and have tried to hook the lower dash into it sevral times, but it just doesnt fit.
The dash hadnt lined up with the previous color either. the ash tray sat just as crooked. In the process of removing and repalcing the dash, the only part that stayed the same was the large curved metal brackety framey thingy (Official Subaru Technical Term)
Im removing and messing around with this today, but any other ideas would be helpfull
-Eric
