Very Low Power / Severe Hesitation HELP!

Hello,

I've got a '92 EJ-33 that is having some trouble. It will start and
idle fine, but has severe hesitation and very little power. I can rev
it up to redline in neutral and all seems well, but put it in gear and
it doesn't have enough power to drive up a moderate grade. There is
no check engine light, and no codes in the computer. I've tried
replacing the AFM, the ECU and the Ignitor but the engine still runs
the same. Besides the low power/hesitation, I think the exhaust
smells a bit odd, maybe like gasoline? Or maybe I've just spent too
much time hanging around exhaust fumes.

Please let me know if you have ANY ideas. I'm not sure where to start
so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Cory

No such thing as an ej-33.
You have an eg33.

Advice: don't rev to redline in neutral.

Question: When you drive, do the gears shift?

Oops...eg-33. I didn't redline it in neutral, just kind of blipped the throttle open.

There is a lot of exhaust coming out of the tailpipe, and the cat is new. But you have the feeling right. It feels like a clogged cat, or something restrictive. I'll look into it. The smell isn't like rotten eggs, it smells like gasoline. And by rotten eggs you mean how propane smells right? I havn't actually smelled rotten eggs .

What would the formalities be?

Thanks!

Haha I've never smelled rotten eggs either, but I believe it's a lot like propane or sulphur.

What color is the exhaust vapor?
Blue?
What temperature is it where you're running it?
By a lot do you mean it forms a huge cloud or just that you can see it?

I don't know much but I guess maybe you aren't burning off enough fuel.

What do your spark plugs look like?
Black?
Brown?
Wet?
I would check those, then maybe take a voltmeter to your wires.

Have you checked the air filter to see if it is clean?? If you have a good deal of debri, it could keep you from running properly

Well it turns out it was trouble with the ignition wiring. The car was only running on the right 3 cylinders. I found this out by disconnecting the Left side fuel injectors with no ill effect.

Everything is back in place now and running great. Thanks for the help you guys.
