Firm shifts/ hunting: resistor?
Not long ago when I mentioned a tranny code, some kind member
offered me a resistor, betting that was my problem. After some research, I believe that member was correct, but I lost his/her email address! Anyone? Does anyone have a parts # for me on that, or a link? I can just see trying to order it from from my dealer and them explaining to me that there in fact, 23 different resistors for that car or something.... Yes, I looked behind (alongside?) the battery, and it IS indeed plugged in. I will attempt to pull the code tomorrow, but I've never done that well when it comes to following directions, and rules, and the like! TIA.

Just as a followup to this thread....
I unbolted said resistor and played with it, diligently of course, and unplugged it, and plugged it back in, a couple times, said some mumbo-jumbo, spit on the ground, (earth, not one of the wires!) and guess what? When I reattached it to the car, my clunking shifts went away! I highly suggest this method before paying for a new one. It's fixed for now. I love my car. No, I REALLY love my car. More than you. I bet.

Does anyone know where on Subaruparts.com or (anywhere) I can find the list of solenoids? My TCU is kicking out a code 11, solenoid A.

Code 11 is almost always the resistor.
If you check the resistance it should be between 7.5 and 15 ohms. If it's outside this range it's faulty. When I replaced mine the new one measured 12 ohms. The old one burned out. The code will also come up if you unplug the resistor or incorrectly install the Smallcar shift kit.

I put the the resistor from my 96 in and sure enough the code stopped. I should have thunk of that before. Not like there are two or three hundred threads on the bloody resistor here. . .  At least i know which one to get from RatShack to replace it with thanks to you guys.
