AC picture
Folks,
Can someone please post a pic of their AC compressor. On my '92 LSL I do not have a tensioner nut and the thing squeals like a pig at startup. When my wife leaves for work at 4:45 i'm sure the neighbors don't like to hear this thing. thanks Tdog |

I will see if I can get one or I will take one today.

If you know that you need a nut, why don't you put one on?

AC picture
Earl,
I've got 2 nuts (don't laugh) that I can tighten down for the AC belt but neither one will take up the slack in the belt to allow it to tighten down to the point to eliminate the squealing. With the engine running I can see the belt is slightly loose with the compressor on. There is a center nut and a nut for sort of a swingarm below that one. Maybe i'm just plain ole missing a step mentally to tighten the belt? Tdog |

Let me see if i understand you right...
On the AC you have the nut that goes on the tension pulley itself, then a bolt that goes through the swing arm. Both those are 12 mm I believe. Also on the swing arm you have the larger bolt which is a 17mm (that the bolt goes through) but doesn't actually tighten a thing.
Let me see if we got how you tightened it down straight. You loosened the 2 12mm ones right? Then everything was loose. What you do then is get your 17mm deep socket and put it on the center and when you tighten that it moves the arm and takes up the slack on the pulley and belt, right? Once you have it pulled tight you tighten down the 12mm nut to hold the arm in place and then you take the 17mm socket off and tighten the 12mm bolt. Just to confirm, is that what you have done and you are just missing that one 12mm nut that tightens the arm in place? Let me know. Thanks ~Ray

Freakin' AHA! I don't have the 17 mm nut. I have the two 12 mm bolts. I literally took a wide blade screwdriver and shoved the swingarm over as far as possible and then tightened the lower 12 mm nut on the swingarm. Souds like I am missing the 17 mm nut. Someone please send me a simple pic of that little rascal.

i'll post some pics tonight
I have some pics at home and we'll figure this out. I'm thinking though that the 17mm one should be there cause if i remember right its attached to the swingarm. I don' think it can be removed from it. I'll look again to make sure. I'll show you mine and how to properly tighten it down. I'll be home in another 3 hours or so and i'll try to get them up quick.

A/C adjustment
T-dog, sorry it took so long to get back to you. The pix are in boxer6 locker under A/C adjust.
What halistan said was absolutely correct. This shows the 12 on the lock-down bolt, and the 17 on the adjuster. This shows the 12 on the bolt that you tighten first, while the other 12 is loose. |

Thanks guys
Thanks for getting those pics. Those are exactly what i was going to post. See T, just loosen the two small 12mm bolts then use the 17 to tighten the belt and when you have it where you want it, hold it there and tighten the two 12's down. Should take all of about 60 seconds to get rid of the squeal
Hope we were all able to help you. Happy motoring ~Ray

BEAUTIFUL! Thanks fellers. Now I have to check for that 17mm bolt when I get home tonight. I think I completely overlooked that puppy. After this fix I have to go get a few estimates after some guy hit the SVX on the lower driver side quarter this weekend. He backed right into my wife and he didn't have a rear view mirror.
