Regarding vB Forums

I was just thinking about this version of vB forums and realized how old it is. I visit, and run, lots of forums and the new versions are very very nice.

What I was wondering is why don't you upgrade? A license from www.vbulletin.com is $160. I would throw in a $5 donation to get an upgrade and I imagine others would too.

Just wondering what others thought about this or what the management was planning on.

It would still be simple. Actually much more simple with a few I have seen. But the options would be much better. I guess it really doesn't matter as the purpose of this site is handled by the current ones but I was just wondering.

Another, smaller forum I frequent recently upgraded to the most recent version. Besides new features, are there important security updates?

There are security updates for sure. Especially if using Internet Exlorer which I sudjest not using. Get Firefox it is far superior.

But the newest version of vB has fixed many things since this one.

Fixed does not mean broken. They have fixed certain security vulnerabilities within it that would allow someone to run certain scripts and get all kinds of personal information out of you. I'm not saying they can with this one that easily I'm just saying that it is a small possibility.

Basically I just wondered why it hadn't been updated but I think I have my answer and that's cool by me. All in all it is not the damned script that runs the community it is the community that makes it a good place to be.

An upgrade is in the works. There have been some delays, and I am not sure when it will happen, but it is being looked at.

And yes, it is sometimes a money issue. Someone may throw in $5.00 now and then, but it costs much more than just the new software. There are a couple other issues that need to be taken care of before the upgrade can be done. Rembember that this site is owned by someone who may or may not want to upgrade, or have the time to do so. Just a couple of thoughts.

I do of course realize that when you said "fixed" there was nothing actually broken on the site, just wondering what issues you felt this (the "old") version had, that actually made it worth upgrading to the latest version of vB
