Don (and all others interested),
I would recommend staying at Shoney's Inn at the junction of Interstate 81 and Route 7 in Winchester. The phone number is (540) 665-1700 - the rate used to be about $50 a night. And downtown Winchester is very quaint and nice - and some good eating places abound (even Shoney's!).

If you haven't checked out the Benz club web site for directions to the James Wood High School where the autocross is run, it is at >www.gws-mbca.org<. Go to the top left and click on "autocross" and you will find the "Directions" to click on. It is very easy to find from Shoney's. Just an exit North on Interstate 81.

I will be at the school helping to set up and change my tires, etc at about 7:30 AM. Practice runs begin about 10:00 AM. I can come back to Shoney's to lead folks out if needed. Total number of cars are limited to 50. We usually get 3 pratice runs in the morning (gotta learn the course, you know) and 3 "official" runs in the afternoon (the best of the 3 in the afternoon is entered as your fastest of the day). This is a large parking lot with no light poles in the way, and speeds can reach 60-70 MPH for some of the higher HP cars, depending on how the course is set up (tight means slower speeds). It is a lot of fun with a bunch of car guys and gals (both driving). There will be at least two SVX's running: me and my son Kyle, driving up from Richmond in his "new" 1996 L Model.

Hope you can make it....
Harry

Thanks Harry! Now is this a Sunday-only affair? Is anyone going to be there on Saturday, and if so...where are you meeting? Don

Don,
If there is interest on Sat, I'll be at Shoney's. Ron had mentioned that perhaps some folks will be coming down on Sat. If you and Jean will be there, I will be there - tires in the back and all. Let's make a weekend of it!
RON?
John?
Larry?
Rufus?

OK, let's do Shoney's for Saturday night. Anyone know the Winchester area well enough to suggest a Saturday afternoon cruise? I know there's lots of scenic roads to get lost on, but we may want to get back to a bah in civilization before dark.

Ron.

Larry,
So sorry you and Rosie will be unable to attend. Maybe next time.

All (that are coming),
Why don't we meet at Shoney's at about 1:00 PM? We would have a little time to freshen up (that's for Ron) and make a short excursion out and about before dinner and retiring for the evening. I will take the action to find us a drive route and a good place to eat for dinner. How's that?
Harry

Hey Folks,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I would recommend staying at Shoney's Inn at the junction of Interstate 81 and Route 7 in Winchester - very easy to find. Just look for the Shoney sign when you get off of the Interstate. The phone number is (540) 665-1700 - the rate used to be about $50 a night - mention that this is with the SVX Club and the rate Harry Newman has. I just made my reservation and talked them into a $45 rate for us for a single. And downtown Winchester is very quaint and nice - and some good eating places abound (even Shoney's!).

An alternative for Shoney's is the Hampton Inn just across the street. It is much newer and costs a little more. The rates for "Summit Point" (you need to mention the raceway to get the discount) is $69.

I plan to be at Shoney's at least by 12:00 Noon on Sat. Hope to see you all there.
Harry

Cheaper than Shoney's??!!....and I thought you'd show up in the Lagonda! You're going shopping for Minis - admit it, and remember - your garage can't hold another 4 wheeled vehicle.

Ta-ta, Ron.

For the record, I just reserved a room at Shoney's for Sat. night, so I'll try to in the parking lot around noon. Only if it snows more than 6 inches, will I cancel. I hear some cold weather is setting in for the weekend. May have to sit around a fireplace & suck down wine a lot. Awwwww!!

Ron.
