Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Did you ever do anything with any of the wiring around the fuel pump relay? That tends to be a problem area, right? Maybe fixing something there created a short?

I'm going to guess the answer is no, because there isn't a closed circuit to cause the SBF2 to blow (?). Wondering if the relay is bad, shorting to ground?

Progress?

Unplugged the fuel pump resistor in the package tray area and I now have a CEL and the car fires once on startup. Fuse does not blow. Going to take a look at the diagram and see the order of components in order to isolate.

YT suggests that the fuel pump is overdrawing the circuit and creating a short. Now trying to figure out how to narrow it down.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

You could unplug the modulator and the resistor, and just ground the yellow, pump's ground wire, to get going.

Harvey.

Harvey.
The weird thing is that Mike gets 6V at the plug to the ballast evan with the key off.
Going back to the wiring diagrams.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

I iust got stranded less than ten minutes ago and am unable to illuminAte my CEL. Have not been able to look any further, other than my fuse for eng is fine...

Id be willing to bet I have no spark either.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Mike, where is the fuel pump resistor located? I assume right off the pump itself, correct?

Cam,

The resistor is on the bottom of the package shelf and can be accessed by pulling off the trunk "ceiling"trim. It is a gray connector with two wires.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Any more progress in your diagnostics? Perhaps the resistor itself is bad? Have you checked it with a multimeter?

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

It's towards the passenger side and has a similar look to the tranny resistor next to the battery.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Today i'll be picking up a loaner resistor and modulator and maybe a pump.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Could a bad modulator/resistor cause a car to run rich? My car has been running roughly 30 psi fuel pressure. It ran up until today. Could it be that that was a warning sign for what happened today (if my problem is indeed the same as mikes?)

With the FPR disconnected it should have 36.3 PSI.

Re: NO CEL w/ key on and no spark?

Returned to the car after work, and she fired right up...

The only thing that could make sense was that the engine flooded.

But still, the CEL light would NOT illuminate this morning. It even flashed at me a couple times immediately before the car died. I am not sure what is going on, but I am going to buy a different car as a daily driver. I cannot afford to be stranded on the way to work because of some electrical gremlin.

I still love my car though, and am looking forward to being able to tear into her without the worries of having her drivable again by monday morning.

I do not intend to hi-jack this thread any more, so I am going to start a thread for my specific problem, and attempt to work through it there.

Good luck with your problem mike, I hope you figure it out soon.
