Request to Moderators/Admin

From seeing quite a few queries on the subject, and being curious myself, I was wondering if we could put some thought into the idea of a section that has 50 threads, each by state, where members could list their city in the appropriate State thread. This would make it very easy to see if any other active members live in a city nearby (for help, questions, meets, etc.).

The last time I tried to look at the Frappr.com map, I was given the 404 error, and its by no means a comprehensive map of our forum members anyways.

I realize this might be a PITA, or not, so I just thought id put it out there, I have always wondered who lives nearby down here, where the concentration of members reside, etc. etc. and was hoping we could put together either a map with hoverable points (member info), or a simple listing of members of each State in a thread or link menu format.

In the thread postings, members could simply post (once) their city or region, and add any pertinent information such as services provided, regular meets, or mention whatever else they think would be useful to another member residing nearby, or planning on driving to or through their area.(Such as local trusted places to take their SVX for needed service!)

This I believe could help strengthen the network by providing a one-stop shop for a member to find local support and events. I do realize theres regional forums.... its just a member has to scan through hundreds of posts with a pen and paper to locate the few that may reside nearby..... I believe it would be much easier to also have a spot on the forum narrowed down by state, either compiled by admin, or voluntarily entered by members.

What do you think ?
Maybe a vote on it?

Re: Request to Moderators/Admin

I like this idea. In the past i've seen regions such as the midwest, southeast, east, etc. but having meets and mini-meets that are still 8 hours + away from me.
I would be in favor of having separate location threads of each state so maybe we can arrange different activities that are still reasonably close to each of us. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Request to Moderators/Admin

Most of us have our city/state right below our join date and above the post count on the right part of the screen. I guess we could have state threads (or better spread out regions), but this is something to take note of.

Re: Request to Moderators/Admin

Right, but to search each member to find where they live is not ideal.

Why start another forum that won't get used and will cause confusion.

For the stated reason of finally having a part of the forum where you can figure out who lives in a city near you. A one-click solution to combing endlessly through the regionals (as stated, barely used). This way it keep one posts per member with their city and info, and you can see whos near instantly. How could that be confusing?

Anyways, it was just an idea.....

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lllllll whattaya waitin for???

I have no doubt the overwhelming majority of members hail from the east coast, I was just hoping to get the cities of members broken down by state, somehow....

Should we list every country too? Will you be driving across the ocean and making use of compiled member listings in Tibet? The Samoan Islands?

Seriously it was just a thought, I guess no idea goes without refinement, or in some cases.... innate criticism.

It would be nice for us here in Europe, especially Denmark. After all there are 3 registrated SVX's here in Denmark.

Re: Request to Moderators/Admin

Doing the States was just kind of the start to the idea, we would just have to figure out which countries to include (with active members) and maybe group by continent? This is of course assuming the admin want anything to do with this idea
