Re: Want ethanol free gas?

The Pacific Pride station on South Third (99W) in Corvallis has ethanol-free 92 octane, it's for off-road use only though. Made my coworker's boat go like a bat out of hell though.

Re: Want ethanol free gas?

My parts guy that i've been buying from since the 90s said he has seen more problems with early-mid 90s subarus since ethanol has come into play. I know for a fact the SVX hates it. It drags my fuel economy down buy 15% and the engine runs sluggish. Not to mention it killed my knock sensors (again). I only put ethenol free in the SVX

Re: Want ethanol free gas?

I passed an Exxon (I think) station in Dalton, Georgia a couple of months ago with a sign out front promoting their ethanol-free gas for better fuel economy.

Any Subaru owner's manual I've ever perused stated that up to 10% ethanol is acceptable. I run the cheapest 90/10 blend in town (Marathon, or Brand X from a local supermarket) in both of my cars and have never had a problem of which I'm aware. Suffice it to say they run strong and consistently return 27+ MPG on the road, at real-world speeds. No doubt, a steady diet of straight gasoline would show slightly better numbers, but probably not enough to offset the cost.

Re: Want ethanol free gas?

I've found that using ethanol free gas shows improvement in fuel economy in certain engines, but in others, almost no change. For example, my 95 cutlass I had had the 3.1 V6. On 90/10 87 octane, I would average about 21-23 with my normal city driving. On 100% 87, I would get 23-24.5 with the same type driving, and the most surprising thing was when I used 100% 89 octane, I would actually get 24-26 in the exact same driving. All of these averages came on many tanks of gas and I always filled my tanks full and kept track of my economy. I did absolutely nothing to the car other than regulare oil changes and only replaced spark plugs/wires, air filter when I first got the car.

However on my 99 Grand Prix GT with the infamous 3800, it made absolutely no difference if I used 90/10 mix or 100%.

With my SVX, the only non-ethanol station we have for premium use 91 octane fuel and our 90/10 mix stations are almost all 93 octane. Again, this seems to make no difference in fuel economy for whatever reason. However, there is a station in Plymouth(15 miles away) that I fill up at when I'm out there that has ethanol free 93 octane gas and I seem to get slightly better mileage out of that than the others. Again, this is almost always filling up when it is near empty so there is no mix of one type gas to another.

Just thought I would post this info as I have found it quite interesting...
