Re: What if not an SVX?
If there wasn't an SVX, I would probably have kept some of my previous cars. I have always had more than one car.
1994 Ford Explorer XLT. (This was a one-owner truck and was abnormally reliable when compared to the model's reputation. I towed so many cars with it!) 1967 Ford Mustang 289/w c4 trans. I probably would have eventually finished this project... maybe not. 1992 Mazda Miata: If the SVX was not around, I would have put a new head on it and kept it as a weekend/auto-x car I did have a fondness for my 1996 Legacy LSi wagon, but it was too big of a neglected POS before I got it to miss it all that much. There are still a load of other cars I really like. I did have a fondness for the 318ti hatchback at the time (lol i know... cutoff BMW). Now that some time has passed though, I could see myself with a Volvo C70 coupe.

Porsche 944, GC8 with a Ej257 swap, or a second gen RX7 with an LS1 swap

Re: What if not an SVX?
See your choice in cars tells a lot about you. Some of you want sports cars. Others want something unique, like themselves. Myself I wanted a luxury car, with sporting manners. Something to entertain me on my way to work, and soothe me after a long day. That's why I was looking at the Caddy & Lincoln. Thier values have absolutely bottomed over the last few years.

Re: What if not an SVX?
I still plan on getting one at some point... a 95 Cutlass Supreme Convertible 3.4 black top, black with black and white 2-tone interior (very rare combo from factory). Back seats converted to 2+2 seating from 91-94 models.

Re: What if not an SVX?
If Huck hadn't discovered Subies, I'm betting he'd have a late model GTO with a big block in it! (in yellow of course!)

Re: What if not an SVX?
I got to say that if it wasn't for the svx..I was playing with Mercury Capri's for awhile (3 of them) and they were fun and all but I have to admit that I really miss my Merkur XR4ti. That thing was a fun ride in all its automatic transmission glory (no loss of boost while shifting automatically) I just wish the heat would have worked in my old one

Re: What if not an SVX?
go test drive one and you will change your mind.. Slowest shifting AT I have ever driven for a "sports" sedan . The Lincoln MKZ AWD blows it out of the water....

I definitely wouldn't have sold my 240z. I still have my triple mikuni solex carbs and manifold, HKS turbo surge tank, and an ancient TRUST twin turbo manifold that I still haven't gotten around to replicating. One day...one day. |

Re: What if not an SVX?

944 Turbo, yup. I would fit a Variocam 3.0 16v 968 engine with the 951's turbo system, and 968 front bodywork on the more angular 944 rear bodywork. Impreza 2.5RS coupe with an STI drivetrain swap. sounds really good. More power than my stage II Legacy GT, in a lighter coupe body... Why did they stop building coupes??? FD-3S RX7 is one of the purest front engine coupe sports car designs ever, and I even like the idea of a rotary engine, in a non-practical use. FC RX7s are not bad either. I would add NSX to the list, which would be perfect if it had a longitudinal drivetrain, and a slightly less substantial rear overhang. To take the daydreaming to the next level... What car would I want that doesn't exist... What I really want is two cars with a family resemblance. 1:a 3-door, 2+2 GT coupe version of my '05 Legacy, with SVX-style canopy, panoramic glass 2-panel roof (flush fitted to the other glass, like SVX's flush glass treatment...), and a fastback hatch like my old Probe GT had. It would have SVX's w-i-a-w, and a 05-07 Legacy GT-like front end, perhaps even a bit more aggressive. STI-grade hardware. Basically a new SVX, based on the BL Legacy chassis, with STI/Tribeca/SVX's 5x114 wheel pattern, with STI Brembo brakes, and Bilstein struts, 6MT/DCCD, or 5EAT/SportShift/VTD, and SI drive. Maybe even Bilstein's PSS10 adjustable damping, as well... Inside it would be well appointed, with a long sloping console (like NSX and Porsce 928 and Carrera GT), and HUD display above the dash, with FLIR and laser/radar cruise control, and all the new driver-aid toys that supplement good mechanical hardware, but don't replace good hardware, nor second guess the driver's commands. Something that would make Infiniti take notice of all the intuitive driver-assist tech. Add to that an updated version of the EG33, with similar bore and stroke to the EJ25, updated with Dual AVCS, and in the future something like VVEL/Valvetronic variable valve lift, and Direct fuel injection. Before someone screams EZ30/36, I would want the EG block and cylinder pitch, for the fact that it can handle variable geometry TURBOS. and I do mean plural, and parallel. An EG seems like a stronger base for forced induction than the thinner-walled EZ. 2: would be a variation on that theme, but a 2-seat mid-engined RWD sports car, powered by the same engine, with many of the same features, but better chassis balance, lighter weight, and more lithe exterior dimensions of a 2-seat sports car. Think of a boxer powered longitudinal NSX that looks a bit more italian with SVX visual cues, which SVX also has an italian designer, as we all know. IF Subaru were to adapt the driveline to have a divorced front differential from the gearbox, car 1 could have a front-mid-engined layout and short front overhang... and car 2, being aft-mid-engined, could also have a front driveline, and be AWD, like the Audi R8. But a front engined AWD GT coupe, and a RWD mid-engined near-exotic sports car would be fine with me, if they didn't take that step. Last edited by BoxerFanatic; 04-14-2009 at 02:30 PM. |

Re: What if not an SVX?
I used the BMW 8 Series in my sig as my daily driver for 3 years Love it, but I'm concentrating more on keeping the mileage down on that car these days. I think it'll need a transmission soon.
The Prelude worked great for a while as a backup / bad weather car, but it recently crapped out on me too. I don't really know what's wrong with it yet, as I currently have too many other things to concentrate on...but, I fear it broke the timing belt.
