Question Transmission

Hello.

I have look on a Stock Transmission to a svx 1996 Mod. i get this verry cheap.
But are thes stronger then a 1992transmission.? I have blow my 1992 transmission 2times. And i just have to get the car running again verry fast.
Are these good??

Thanks for the help.

If the 1996 transmission is out of a 96 SVX than you will have no problems. The 96 had some upgrades done to it, but if you want to save your transmission, hooking up a transmission cooler will help.

Significant Technical Input
Re: Transmission

you my friend most likely like to drive fast on the expressway.

This information is from my knowledge of the US market transmissions. It may all apply to the Euro boxes..none of it may apply to the euro boxes.

The later year svx transmissions have a weaker low reverse clutch than the 92's but that is fine especially for a stock car. Subaru just figured out they could get by with less there. The low reverse clutch still never fails.

Subaru revised the high clutch hub several times to improve lubrication of the front planetary and the bearing there so that they don't melt when the high clutch burns out. This really doesn't make a difference unless your high clutch is burnt out. If your high clutch isn't burnt out your front planetary isn't going to melt.

Subaru revised the valve body several times as well along the same lines so a later model valve body can be considered better than an earlier one.

So in the end..the 96 transmission is a little better than the 92 is on a stock car because of the valve body but the likely points of failure are the same as they are for the 92. Brake band, high clutch, thrust bearings. In your case I suspect you are burning out high clutches. The only ways to prevent that from happening again is a performance rebuild of the high clutch and or a performance rebuild of the valve body.
