Re: wrx auto tranny?

No, will not work unless u want to do lots and lots of not fun wire/computer stuff. The trannys most commonly used are plug and play. manual trannys have 2 plugs so splicing is not a major issue.

Re: wrx auto tranny?

Don't see why it won't, it is just a normal 4eat box, would run off the SVX TCU OK. Or have I missed something?

Harvey.

Re: wrx auto tranny?

Soob started going with "phase 2" trannies in 1998, some models had the "phase 1" till 99. The phase 1 has an brake band adjustment nut and no external mounted filter. The Phase 2 has no external adjustment and an external screw on filter. There are also electrical differences between the phase 1&2.

Physically the phase 2's will bolt up, but you would also need to rewire and use the newer TCU, and wire the newer TCU into our ECU.

but wait, there's more!!

The phase 2 transmissions have different dimensions so a custom X-member would be in order. Not to mention a modified driveshaft... I have been meaning to get back to this project for some time now but finding a phase 2 tranny for next to nothing with a TCU to match has proven to be troublesome... I still want to do it though as it will open up our transmission availability greatly and most phase 2 4eat's have a 4.44 FD

Re: wrx auto tranny?

Even better, I wonder what it would take to use a 5EAT? Even cooler would be the 5 speed Tiptronic with paddle shifters... (And I know it exists, look what I found digging in the data screen on the Select Monitor

Re: wrx auto tranny?

aparently someone in Japan has done it already... don't know the particulars but I don't see why it couldn't be done with some time and effort

do you think the phase 2 transmission could be run with the phase 1 (svx) TCU?

I don't a lot about this, but it seems like it would be likely that the I/O is fairly simmilar? THat is 2 speed sensors, band control solenoids, pressure control solenoids, torque convertor lock up, etc. Allowing the Phase 2 to run on the Phase 1 TCU

I've run a EJ25 NA engine in an Impreza that originally had a EJ18, and ran it with the EJ18 ECU. There was some splicing involved obviously to get connectors to match, but It runs quite well.

It would have to be an older...JDMer wrx tranny. As previously mentioned, it would have to be a pre-'98 tranny, and in the U.S. pre-'98 there was obviously no such thing as a WRX so it would have to be a tranny out of a JDM WRX auto.

I was lucky enough to find such a tranny. It is out of a '93 WRX auto wagon with 93k km.

4.11 gears + more clutch packs than the N/A trannies = goodtimes
