Well, it's not my sensors

I think I can say with a reasonable amount of authority that my sensors are not the problem with my SVX.

Tonight I received three sensors that are known good, i.e. they were removed from a car that worked and shipped to me. After I got home, I took some time with my car to replace all three sensors; both crank position sensors and one cam sensor. While I was tearing the car apart, I removed the battery from the car... just in case (and to get to the cam sensor, of course).

After the car had cooled off a little (wanted to try from a cool-start, not a warm start) I took the car out for a bit of a drive. Lo and behold, 8 minutes in the car trips the same two codes; P0348 and P0337 in that order.

So what does this tell me? Well, it tells me that in all likelihood the sensors are fine. The chances of three complete sets of sensors being bad (the originals, plus the new replacement set I bought, plus the used replacement set I bought) is pretty slim. I also tested these replacement sensors using a multimeter... they seemed to respond as expected (numbers changing in a "wave" in response to a fixed magnet). The set I removed tonight also responded similarly.

So next step... well, wiring to be honest. All I've got left to trace here is the wiring itself. Thankfully, thanks to pearlm30 (god, I love this community!!!) I have a wiring harness in-hand that was removed from a working car and we're going to install it this weekend. If that doesn't fix my problem... well, I don't know.

I can't throw too much more money at this car. I'm going to replace the muffler as I planned tomorrow... with a bit of luck I'll also be replacing the O2 sensors at the same time. They're not throwing codes... but it won't hurt! If they don't arrive before 3pm tomorrow, then I'll be doing them myself... that's not too hard.

If I find nothing else... anyone any suggestions? I'm sort of at a loss at this point as to what to look for next. Other sensors? Maybe the knock sensors gone TU? I'm starting to run out of options, here. If I can't fix it, it won't pass emissions inspection... then I can't drive it. If I can't drive it, I can't justify keeping it... but at this point I find myself really wanting to.

Anyone else help me with this crisis?

I was showing the same codes on mine a few months ago. After changing the sensors, it still wouldn't start, so my Subaru mechanic started poking around and found a cracked knock sensor. After replacing the knock sensor, it runs great and I have since put a couple thousand miles on it with no trouble. It does still throw codes for a cam and 2 crank sensors every now and then, but they are new so I know it's not an issue.

That's the thing that's bizarre. My car starts... and it runs. It runs rich... but it runs. I'd think if those sensors were really bad, then it wouldn't run.

Hmm... might have to look at the knock sensors as well.
