Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

Just tried the LSD additive to the trans and like magic, my binding issues seem to have disappeared. Very neat trick, what made you think to try LSD addative?

I do have a couple questions though. Are you supposed to flush the trans after it stops binding? Do you have to put in addative every time you change the trans fluid?

Thanks!

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

From my experience with it, i never drained it after it worked, and when i did do a fluid change did not put any more in.

Worked fine like that. Figured if the symptoms come back, then i would put more in. - Ed

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

I am having the same problem i believe. Where did you get the additive? Did you add it to the tranny or the rear diff? Whats the name of the additive. Thank you.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

Subaru dealers routinely use an additive when cars have been sitting in their inventory for awhile and develop a "binding"... Even their new cars. Don't know how much they use but it could even be a Subaru product... ask a Subaru dealer.

I have added Lubegard in the red bottle to the tranny fluid in other Subarus experiencing binding in the center diff and had great experience with it. The Lubegard tranny protectant not only helps the binding problem but it has other beneficial additives to reduce heat and to free up sticky solenoids. It is one of the few additives that isn't snake oil.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

This is what i used, and it worked great.

Not to say other brands won't be just as good, just that this is the one i
happened to find in an auto supply store.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

While I was at the subi dealer to pick up my ball joint (of wich they said were only 21 left in the country and their wharehouse had 18 of them), I asked them about the additive and they sold me Motorcraft Friction Modifiyer. They said that is what they used. I thought that was funny because they called it Ford Friction Modifyer. Anyway, how much do I add to the Tranny? Thanks.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

So, I got the additive, now I need to know how much to put in. The bottle did not come with any directions. How much should I use?

If it is like Lubegard, you add the entire bottle.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

If it's a 4oz. bottle, use all of it.

The best way to get this to work is to go to a large empty lot and slowly do about 10 or so tight circles first in one direction, then the other.G
I did this, and i had SEVERE binding, and as i'm doing the circles, the binding got less and less and then GONE!

Now, go do it and let us know how you make out.

Thats awesome that it worked for you man. Yeah it is a 4 oz bottle. I will put it all in and do the circles like you and some figure 8's. What mine does is like a truck in 4wd when you turn sharp it wants to thump.

Re: diff binding/ lsd additive

Maybe something should be put in the how-to section on this topic? I had greal luck with Lubegard. ZMAN used redline and it worked for him which is not surprising since Redline makes good stuff too. And now we have confirmation that the Ford Motorcraft additive works as well. The ideal procedure would be this:

1. Drain the transmission and replace the internal filter
2. Pour in one bottle of Lubegard (red bottle), Redline or Motorcraft friction modifier/ATF protectant
3. Add new non-synthetic ATF
4. Perform 10 figure 8s in a parking lot

I specify non-synthetic because I believe the high end synthetic ATFs already have some of this additive in it and the manufacturer's do not suggest adding more friction modifiers. Lubegard and Redline have wetting agents that also aid in removing heat from the transmission and they are also known to help free up sticky solenoids.
