JDM 3 tone SVX....beauty!

Not big deal, but I'd just like to share some photos and movie of this 3 tone JDM SVX since I know some of you are really into it. I am!
I thought it was for sale, but it's not!

http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~korotan/alcyone.htm

There's also a link to short movie of this SVX. Click the small gray box says something with 56k.

Enjoy!

Glad you guys enjoyed the link.. As you can see in my avator I love the 3 tone SVX, too bad that color scheme wasn't offered in the US.

Basically on the page he talks about SVX's history and background stories which you guys already know of. The guy(or the owner of the shop) bought the car to have it in his inventory but he fell in love and decided to keep the car for private and company use....

Yeah I forgot who it was but someone here in this forum owns one right?

I wanna paint my SVX like that! Mm but my interior is beige

Norman (K70nw) has one exactly like that.

Tony Shale and Barry Castle both had version E models in that colour scheme.

The cars were released in Japan in two main flavours:

Version E and
Version L

The Version E was basic spec, for want of a better description, and the Version L was the top spec, but note, top spec in Japan. Their idea of "fully loaded" differs from the US or the European one, so they are not equivalent.

The version L came with active 4WS, leather seats, driver's airbag, cruise and so on.

The standard Version E usually came without cruise, ABS or sunroof, and never had active 4WS. They also usually had the Ecsaine seats, rather than leather.

Unless it was the special factory order only Version E that came with cruise, ABS, sunroof and airbag.

Thanks Paul. Nice picture.

Yes, that's why I said the "standard" Version E, so as not to add to the confusion.

What amuses me most about Japanese specs is the number of top-of-the-range cars that they have from 91 to maybe 96 that might come with no airbag at all, or maybe the driver's airbag only. Passengers could fly out the front window in a head-on, if they liked!!

Another thing hard to figure is the number of "luxury" cars with velour upholstery. The Toyota Celsior will have velour, Toyota Soarer, Nissan Q45 and so on and so on.

Here in Ireland or England, if a car does not have leather, it has not earned the "luxury" soubriquet.

Funny lot, the Japanese.

Joe

You need to take the climate into account. Leather seats can be very cold to sit on in winter or very hot in summer. This is probably more apparent in Japan than Ireland or England.

Good thought Phil, Maybe that's it.

What I thought it was myself was the "livingroom effect"

You will have noticed that some cars come with lacy seat protectors on top of the seats. Most or all of these are purchased as accessories.

Well, the Victorian term for these things is antimacassors. I think that spelling is correct. They were put on seat backs to stop the seat material being stained by men's hair oil [remembering George Clooney in Oh Brother, Where art thou?]

They look kinda prissy when you see them in a car. I thought maybe the Japanese were trying to make the car interior into a sitting room or drawing room for a luxury effect.

But climate, yeah, that could be why.

Joe

Power Folding Mirrors were also optional on the Japanese L models, correct?
I saw a pair on ebay and was wondering if it was true. Not that I ever fold my mirrors around here, or would pay $200 for the priviledge of having it done automatically... j/w

Any Japanese cars I have seen so far, they all have power folding.

My RVR has folding mirrors as well, and they are big van-like mirrors.

I think they are cool, and I have paid the money to fit a pair to my black SVX. I have not finished the wiring yet, but I will soon.
[European models never got folding mirrors, and so are not pre-wired for folding]

On many occasions in tight streets and car-parks, I have found it useful to be able to close both mirrors from the driver's seat, in order to squeeze through a tight spot.

It's a nice feature to have, but you could live without it OK.

Joe
