SCCA Rules questions

This is for anyone who has done any SCCA events in the past and has experience with the rules. I have been pouring over the rules the past few days and cannot find the answers to a couple questions. First of all, I know that I will not be in the "stock" class next year, but rather in the "street touring STX" class. Am i allowed to use the following items: phenolic spacers, adj. FPR, aluminum radiator, lighter driveshaft, lighter flywheel. I know the last two is probably pushing it, but I was just wondering. Also, what class do they bump SVX'rs to who have undergone a 5mt or 6mt swap?

Street Mod for 5 and 6MT

Here's the rest...

STX = STS + additional mods (1)
STS allows for:
Removal of entire AC system
Replace driver’s and front passenger’s seat (must weigh at least 15 lbs)
Tires up to a width of 225
Tires must have a minimum tread wear rating of 140
Any wheels up to 7.5” in width that fit over stock brakes
Any shock absorber may be used
Cross-drilled and/or slotted brake rotors are permitted
Brake lines may be substituted with alternate DOT approved lines
Substitution, addition, or removal of any anti-roll bar(s) is permitted
Springs must be the same type as the original
Coil spring perches originally attached to struts or shock absorber bodies may be changed or altered, and their position may be adjustable
Adjustable camber plates may be installed at the top of the struts
Differential mount bushings may be replaced, but must attach in the factory location(s) without additional modification or changes
Camber bolts may be installed
Sub frame mount bushings may be replaced, but must attach in the factory location(s) without additional modification or changes
Relocation of the battery is permitted but not into the passenger compartment
The air intake system up to, but not including, the engine inlet may be modified or replaced
Reprogrammed ECU may be used in the standard housing
Electronic components may be installed in-line between an engine’s sensors and ECU
Fuel pressure regulators may be replaced
The mass airflow sensor must remain in its approximate original location
Any crankshaft damper or pulley may be used
Engine mounts may be replaced, but must attach in the factory location(s)

STX adds the following:
Engine size up to 5.1 liter (NA) and 2.0 liter (turbo/sc)
Rims of max width of 8”, diameter/offset unrestricted
Tire width limited to 245 mm
High flow catalytic converters are allowed, but must attach within 6 inches of original unit
Brake rotors may be replaced with any rotor of equal or larger diameter

-Bill

p.s. radiators are fine as long as you don't increase the capacity
p.p.s yeah, the driveshaft and flywheel are probably pushing things...but then again, the flywheel would be hard to check...

I will still be in the STX class becasue I want to run with RX-7 rims and I want to do more than just a cat-back. Any reccomendations for tires on the RX-7 rims?

Falken RT-615s

The RX-7 rims will give you a slightly wider track due to their 50mm offset....much more with a 245 tire and you'll have to worry about the fenders eating your tires

You can't change anything aft of the throttle bodies. Spacers are not allowed.

Engine management should be allowed in STX though - you should be able to run the ECUTune chip (at least the stage 1 version).

Bill,

If he's in STX he can't use r-comps (treadwear must be 140 or higher). Most competitive Street Touring class tires are: Yokohama Advan Neovas, Falken Azenis RT-615's, Hankook RS-2's and Kumho Ecsta MX's.

Depends on what your goals are for the car. If you want to ever compete at a National Tour event or possibly Nationals, if you're ever protested, you would be DQ'd. If you plan on just doing local events, you'll be fine.

You could always double or triple stack some factory intake manifold gaskets.

This is the only Flat 6 subaru that I'm aware of which competes on a National level in STX:

The owner's from TX and he finished 27th (out of ~40 competitors) in a very competitive class.
