Ask Ford, GM and D-C motors. They are scrambling as their gas guzzler cars, trucks and SUVs pile up on dealer lots. Look at what Toyota and Nissan have done, introducing totally new vehicles that have better fuel economy. Price of fuel is now driving the auto industry and sadly, our USA automakers are far behind the curve, as usual. Look for a total revolution in the auto industry as the world economy is affected by fuel prices and availability. The dark days of petroleum based fuels lies just over the horizon and its moving fast.

i had a record cost per fill-up in the svx on sunday: $50.96.

at $3.139 / gal, i wonder how that stacks up against the $1.119 / gal in november 1986 for my first ever gasoline purchase in today's dollars. david?

Canadians are already getting screwed at the pumps. I paid the equivalent of $4.00 per gal US at the pumps this week and we are being told to expect to see more increases. For a Country that is the second largest producer in the world I cannot understand why gas is cheaper in the US. Can anyone out there explain this??

I will pay whatever the price, but I don't have to like it.

I've thought about converting my Impreza like this one:
http://www.proev.com/index.htm

But for the price....I could buy a lot of gas...it would take a lot of miles and very expensive gas to make such a conversion profitable.

What's odd to me is seeing people drop $400 a month on a new econobox so they can 'save' money on gas

Of course, for a few people who drive a lot it would make sense...but probably not for most people.

I'm just saying that it's coming your way soon. I fill every thursday regardless of if I need to or not.

Also this fill was at regular gas price and not premium.

Premium would have cost around $84.

We're all fixated on price, because that's here and now, but the real concern is supply. This time last year, in the wake of hurricane Katrina, half (if not more) of the stations from here to 30 miles south of Atlanta were out of at least one grade. And there were lines from the pumps into the streets here on the evening of 9/11/01. Something especially vile and sticky hits the fan, people rush the pumps, and parts of the U.S. could go days or weeks with precious little juice.

When it again becomes available, we'll be happy to have it at any price. And the oil companies know this.

.Yeah, we get the equivalent of an 'employee discount'. What we don't spend at the pumps we more than make up in keeping the crude flowing.
