tps at 1.5 wont go 0.5

So I tried to set the TPS and on the voltometer it says 1.50 and ranges from 1.4ish to 1.8ish but nowhere near 0.5v. My car runs like crap full throttle at half throttle bogging at full throttle. I replaced the TPS still doing it dont know what to do. Also the code for both o2 sensors was thrown I cleared code and drove around for 30 min and no code even though it ran like crap binding kindof thunk from rear when taking off and turning at the same time. Please someone who knows how to fix this hell car please let me know. I am about to lose all faith in anything subaru.(especially the SVX)

Are you tapped into the white wire?
Are you doing the testing with the ignition on, at closed throttle?

Sounds like we found the problem. Dont connect the negative on the voltmeter to the battery negative. Instead, connect it to a neutral ground, like maybe the metal bar that holds the battery in place. I bet this will fix your problem.

dont worry, I just adjusted my TPS, and the instructions for it totally suck, so I had to ask to. The proper way the instructions should be read should be
1: Stick the pin through the white wire.
2:connect the positive lead to the pin
3: connect the negative pin to a neutral ground in the car
4: Start the car and let it idle
5: turn the TPS until it is at .5 volts.

I havent looked at the how to or anything but if you are actually using a pin on the wire and puncture the shielding i would definitely put some silicone on the puncture and then tape it really well. I would try to backprobe the wires you need for the tps with the same pin. Thats how i set mine and also it was with the KOEO(key on engine off) You always want to try and avoid pucturing wires. Take it for what its worth. Thats how i was taught.

well I tried with the KOEO and only could get it down to .72 or so still no .5 I tried on and off the battery post and every other ground and same thing. I will trie running it at that and see but I have little faith in my entire car.

I would definetly start the car. That is what it says in the how-to, and that is what I did too, and it went to .5 Volts immediately. Try it that way, it will work.

TPS setting.

The setting is done, Throttle closed, Ignition On only, don't start the engine. As you are measuring the sensors voltage, measure it at the sensor. Positive on the white wire, Negative on the metal part of the sensors body. Specs are 0.45V to 0.55V.

Harvey.

sorry, I didnt think you had tried it that way yet. I thought after I told you about the negative to ground thing that you had tried that, but with the engine off. But apparently, according to Harvey, it is supposed to be off. Now im really confused.

Yes that is taken from the Bible. The difference in the measured voltage is from all the ground connections, between the sensor and the battery.

Harvey.

AND, there should be little to no differance with the engine at idle, or with the key on, and engine off.
