Rear Diff purchasing advice?

Hey all

I bought and drove home yesterday with AppstateSVX's baby (thanks man, she's great so far!). We knew that either the rear bearings or rear diff were problematic and I had a very knowledgable friend drive it around for a few minutes today and he's almost certain the diff is shot. Any reccomendations as to how to replace this for as little $$$ as possible without sacrificing quality? I'm starting grad school soon and I've GOT to watch how much I throw at this car. I realize that to keep it running I can't be too tight with the purse strings, but you college students know what I mean I've done some searching through old posts on the topic, but with such a limited search string I got MOUNTAINS of data to sift through. Thought there might be a quick answer.

Another quick (and probably dumb) question -- the passenger door and windshield have been replaced post-window tinting, plus the tint is starting to fade and blister in the back, so rear visibility at dusk isn't so stellar. Is there anything I should know before I start scraping the tint off to redo it? I reeeeeally don't want to screw the glass up since it's so expensive.

Thanks in advance, this seems to be one of the best, most friendly automotive forums I've ever visited!

as far as the windows, just follow any advice that you get from . Be really careful with the defrost though, don't want to scrape it off.

Have you found out anything about getting the diff from your old car yet?

I read a post suggesting using vinegar to soften the adhesive on the window tinting. I haven't tried it yet, I may break down and take it to a 'professional'.

for the rear Diff, just contact TomsSVX, he has a bunch of them aside, I dunno how he got them, I'd say they are most probably HOT you can procure yourself one of them...

Hahahahaa, J/K Tom, I know you have them aside from the conversions you did

yep, I replied to a post of Tom's last night, and he has 4 of them. so, that is prbly your best bet. Make sure it is that and not the bearings first though.

Not sure about vinegar but I know amonia breaks down the tint itself. Must be careful with what you use to clean the windows.

Thumbs up Sweeeeet

Thanks guys, sorry I haven't replied sooner, been a crazy week at work, plus the flu definitely sucks. App, just let me know when you drop the bucks in the mail - Tom, I'll get in touch with you as soon as I have it. It'll probably be Monday before I get it, and I'm not sure whether or not there will be a waiting period at the bank for clearing - there was on App's end. I haven't tried anything with the tinting yet... still have a fever of 101+ and my joints feel like they're packed with thumbtacks so there's no way I'm getting out and scraping for hours on end yet lol... I did take it to a local performance shop and confirmed that the differential is the offender.

Thanks again to all involved!
