TORQUE CONVERTER

Sorry I can't record the sound. The car is in the shop. Now I'm told It's probably something stuck inside the torque converter. They noticed the inspection cover on the bottom of the transmission is missing. This exposes the flywheel and torque converter to the elements. To tell you the truth, I won't know the problem until they open up the trans. It's expensive! But I have to do it. Once it's fixed, I'll let you all know the outcome. Thanks again!

Just found out via another thread (too lazy atm to look it up; wait, it's called "suprise: my tranny went out") that there is no inspection plate underneath the flexplate/torque converter. I don't know why, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems . . . that we know of . . .

flex plate

I finally had the problem fixed. kuoh was on the right track, it was the flex plate. It was the same problem htownsvx had. The flex plate was cracked all around the bolts. Because the plate was cracked, it was spinning wrong and rubbing and banging against it's surroundings (sorry I wasn't able to record the sound). The trans had to be removed to replace the part. It cost me over 450 dollars! ouch! I've included a photo for your viewing of the cracked flex plate.
