bought a McLaren

Mustang that is.......1986 to be exact.
low mileage white with grey leather
Not much for driving, but just as an investment of some sort
for the next yr or so.
Yeah, its a 5 spd too.....3rd from the last ever built
using the Capri bodys.

Yeah, I know .....wheels are on backwards
going to fix that this week

I agree. I mean, come on - if you're going to make a car with that much white on it, go all the way with it.

Its an 80s thing...back then it was very Euro to white or black out a whole car. AMG started the whole thing with their cars and
everyone else seemed to follow.

Question

I don't mean to be unkind, but I hope you didn't mortgage the business or the house to buy it.

It looks like a Mark III Cortina with coving plaster around the base.

I am presuming it has ultra-special mechanicals and can do 0-100-0 in about 14 seconds or so to compensate for the look of it?

No?

Your not unkind, a little un educated maybe
What their value is today and will be in a few yrs
seems to already of been decided.

example: you can see what this low mileage one
sold for and its not even the popular color combo

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...512822687&rd=1

I paid alot less for mine

OK Dayle

Thanks for the link. Looks a lot better up close and personal in the detail. The bodywork looks a little staid, but as I remember the eighties over here, slab-sided was the fashion of the time.

Best of luck with it, hope it does appreciate with time for you.

Joe

I owned an '88 McLaren (Mustang based) Dayle. On the few rare nice days here in MI, I truly miss my convertibles

Joe, this car is based on the Fox platform Mustang and came with a 5.0 (4.9L) V-8 with a five speed. It was heavy but nicely torquey The McLaren was for all intents a dressed-up Mustang with special steel panels, no rear seat, special convertible top, re-located/sized windshield and interior trim. No performance enhancing bits were added to the engine or suspension sadly.

Red face

Well, I'm joking really. Don't mean to be insensitive.

Todd will probably remember from his time here, that with our mild climate [read WET!!] and thieves and vandals with knives, convertibles are about as useful here in Ireland as an ashtray on a motorbike.

So not too many over here hanker after them.

We hanker after the sort of weather that might make them usable, but not rag-top cars.

Joe

GM parts
It was sold thru the Ford dealers as a "Mclaren Mustang"
from 84-86 they used Mercury Capri bodies for the HT and convertibles, from 87-90 they used Mustang bodies basically
with ASC mods.
Heres, you can find out more here if you want
