a new house, thoughts?

I am thinking within 2 years I want to buy some land and build a house. Anyone here live in a Dome ? I really think the concept is cool and love the way they look. Thoughts? Only Con is that it may not have very good resale and loans are sometimes harder to get.

some pros are they can resist tornado hurricains and earthquakes.

Expanding might be a pain. My dad an some of his pals recently helped add a wing of classrooms onto a nearby geodesic dome church sanctuary building. I went by one day while the framing was underway, and noticed all the angle cuts required looked like a carpenter's nightmare. He said fitting the drywall was even worse.

most ppl that add to a dome just build another done on and connect them using a hallway. without maintaining the shape of a dome you will lose the benifits of having a dome.

Yeah, I'd think that would be the way to go. Joining a second-floor structure and conventional roofline to the dome is where they ran into loads of tedious work.

My wife likes houses like that. Call me old fashioned but I still like flat sides on my houses.

If those dome houses are as strong as you say, maybe one day they'll catch on and be the most common structure to live in. But for now, the design is still very avant garde...

very true. there overall just consideralably more effeciant even heating and cooling. it will probably be monoliphic domes that become popular in the future.
