Question possible purchase

I'm thinking about buying this 86 XT turbo GL 10 4WD
price...150.00

milege....33,000

body..some damge, but easily fixable, Undercarriage IS CLEAN, no rust!!

interior...great, except no headunit, but everything else seems to be in great condition

other....adjustable air ride, sunroof, TURBO, all the fun goodies from that model era, etc, etc

Why is it 150.00???

Blown Head Gasket!!...seen a replacement on ebay for like 65.00 including shipping

Should i do it?? or would it not be worth fixing??

I'd say go for it, but put this same post up over on the XT forum. A blown head gasket may not be a straight forward fix as it seems on every car... Plus, if the head gasket blew, there could be other stuff that's been damaged in the engine.

$150 is a great price, but factor in the cost of a new engine into that. If you can find one for $100-$200, then it may still be a great deal.

Either way, go into this purchase very cautiously and do a ton of research beforehand about the possible repairs...

For $150 even if it's not worth fixing I'm sure you could easily make the money back parting it out.

I'd be highly skeptical of that odometer reading on an '86 with a blown head gasket. But for $150, the car would already be in my driveway.

If it has a 5 speed it would be a real nice deal. You can't buy a lawnmower for $150. Would make a good get thru winter ride.

Are they sure its just a blown head gasket and not a cracked head? Either way though you could drop a used engine in that thing for practically nothing. I'd do it if the body was solid.

For $150 you can't go wrong. If it were me, I'd do a hack-job repair and rally the piss out of it until something serious breaks, then haul it away. Wish I stumbled across a deal like that.

Get it man! I would but I'm tapped out until I finish the Honda Dream project. Just no space!!! EZ Pull in New Ringgold has a couple of Turbos for parts. It is a fun BIG brother to the SVX. In a lot of ways the XT and XT6 are much more fun to drive around in normal day to day driving than the SVX.

If you do pass on it. Give Hocrest or myself a shout. He does need to replace that darn Legacy of his at some point!!!

Better idea, Toss that crap EA82 and toss in an EJ22T or EG33. Now that would be a sweet XT.

Hrrm

Low Mileage and a blown headgasket? Sounds fishy to me. If I were you I wouldn't do it. If the headgasket is blown, the engine may have overheated as well.

On the other hand, who's selling it and where can I find them? PM me the info. And yes, I'm serious!

You'll have to pry the Legacy from my cold dead butt cheeks....

You just want the Legacy out of the way so I don't beat you anymore in autocrossing....

Excaliber, If you do pass, you can see there are others out here that are interested. Please let us know...
