Passenger Door Light Help!
A few Questions:
I replaced some speakers in the doors. I accidentally snipped the door light harness (pink connector) instead of the speaker wire (don't laugh, I had a bad day!). So I had to spice the connecter and added 2 separate female plugs that now plug into the wire harness...No biggy right? ... After reinstalling the door panel I noticed that the corner door light would not shut off?? Every interior light in the car will shut off besides the passenger door marker light as both doors are shut. So I thought maybe I could reverse the wiring job that I did (above). So I did that, and I think I ended up touching the two wires together. I then heard a pop (fuse popping sound) in the area behind the glove box. Now the door light doesn't work at all??? What am I missing here? Does the glove box light come on all the time when the door is open? If so, the light seems to be dead as well?? All other interior lights seem to be working. Checked all the fuses and all are ok Last edited by JLittell; 06-19-2003 at 10:57 PM. |

Does the glove box light come on all the time when you open it, or just when you have the headlights on? Help with this door stuff!!

The glove box light only comes on when the door is open (Duh!) and the headlights/parking lights are on (on my 92 anyway).
If you heard a popping sound from the glove box area...there is a door lock timer behind the security module (again on a 92). Does the other door's lights work properly, does the other interior lights fade after the door closes, etc.? |

Yes, all other interior lights fade and work. The locks are both working. I'm just not getting any power to the door light..?? I will try the glove box light with my heads on...

OK..glove box light works...Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the passenger door?

here's maybe what you're looking for (sorry for the reverse image, haven't figured that out).

Thanks Lee! I had the door apart again and followed the wiring diagram. The only place that the door light seems to go is to the Main Fuse Box and the Time Control unit. I again didn't see any fuses out. Is there a posibility that maybe something shorted or burned out in the Time Control unit?? Everything else dims and lights correctly but the damn door light??? Still no power to the light...Any ideas? This is quite a mystery!

I'm of no further help as I've never seen this problem. My "guess" is it's in the timer module. You may be able to open it up and look for a bad part. Best of luck.

Does anyone know where I can find the timer module? What does it look like?

don't know exactly, up by the passenger kick panel or behind the glove box. Here's a couple more drawings (in reverse image still) that may help.

A while ago I shorted a footwell light, and lost the dimmer function of the interior lights.
(With help from Mychailo) the control unit was traced as he noticed it also houses the beeper that operates when you open the door with the keys still in the ignition. It was behind the glovebox, a plastic box, about 4" x3"x3/4" with a 20 pin connector and a 16 pin connector going to it. (It was beside the cruise control unit.) I pulled this apart and traced the circuit out. It has a microprocessor in it that senses about 8 circuits and drives about the same number of outputs. The microprocessor does the dimming in software (which explains why mine don't dim perfectly smoothly). The microprocessor can't handle the current drawn by the lights, so there is a MOSFET array in a 10 pin package (SIL-10), marked PU7456, that drives 4 lighting circuits on pins 5,6,7,8 of the 16 pin connector. There is no protection on these circuits, so shorting the lights when they are on will blow the corresponding MOSFET. Note: Blown ones don't look any different from good ones, but someone with a multimeter can check this easily. Looking for PU7456 with Google will give you technical specs, and places to buy it from (about $5). I had some MOSFET's lying around, so I didn't replace the whole unit, but just replaced the faulty one. I suspect the same module controls the door lights - especially if you say the pop came from the same region! Now if there weren't 20 screws to remove to take out the glovebox I'd check this, but maybe someone with the wiring diagram can do that more easily. |

With all that said and done, what part might I replace to fix this annoying problem? That all sounds like what is wrong. Thanks for the info!

You have two options:
1. Simply replace the Timer Module, and see if that fixes the problem. 2. Take the Timer Module out, and get an electronics engineer or technician to check the PU7456 component inside it, and replace it if faulty. You'd probably find a service palce that fixes tv's or stereo's would look at it. |

Anyone have a part number for the light timer module?
