transmission question

im looking at a JDM svx transmission on ebay but in the description it says it will pretty much only work in front wheel drive. why is this, is the gear ratio different ? help please.

No that is wrong. The JDM trans is a VTD, it can not run in front wheel drive only. The diff ratio is different also, 3.7;1, your rear diff 3.45:1.

not sure what denotes it but I have seen "JDM" transmissions for the SVX with the clutch pack AWD... Might have just been labeled as such for sale

This would appear to mean that the transmission offered is faulty and the centre diff is not working. Please exactly quote the description as it appears on ebay. Unlikely, but could it mean that a front wheel drive only type transmission, is on offer?

In the event that it is a JDM four wheel drive transmission, i.e. VTD, it can not be used to replace a US type transmission.

It sounds like the same guys to me. They are importing JDM transmissions and they seem to think that the only difference is the diff ratio. So they advocate running it in FWD mode.

But they haven't figured out that the JDM trans doesn't have a FWD mode. What they are suggesting will not work.
