Re: dumb question about colors...

I thought you might like that Ron.

Nobody as much as blinked when I offered the correct black roof code, even though bods have been asking for it for years.......

Oh well, back to my nerdy research.

I downloaded a list of Subaru paint codes some years ago. With a lot of patience I built it into an Excel spreadsheet.

It is my contention that this paint code is the actual paint Subaru used on the roof of the SVX. It is not listed anywhere as the paint used in any SVX technical literature or WSMs or bulletins or such.

However case for the defense holds that this is :-

a) The only black solid paint listed by Subaru for 92->
b) The year of issue coincides with the launch of the SVX
c) The code is 204, which as we determined above denotes 92 sales year.
d) It is one of only two solid blacks in 484 Subaru paint codes.
e) The other solid black is dated 1984.

The defense rests, your honour, let the yoots debate whether my case holds water.

Not so dumb, Dave.

You are the first Network member ever [aside from me, of course] to get the answer to that question since the Network started off back in Yahoo! days.

The question is, will Benz black be better than Subbie sooty? Keep us posted.

Contrary to the winning strategy of a famous defense, your case actually does seem to hold water

It looks like the number is when the color started. I did find one exception. Laguna Blue #389 The first year for that was 94, not 93, unless it was available in other countries than the US.

Totally right there Earl. It was available in Japan.

The Japanese home market got their new or revised models 6 months to a year ahead of the rest, with the USA as principal other market being first in line after Japan.
