rear bearing replacement
ok now i'm confused. just got the new bearings and they looked like they were ready to go.i called subaruparts and was told they are sealed and don't need repacking. can anyone clear this up for me before i install them? any help is appreciated. thanks dennis

i believe this repacking thing might be old news i cant seem to locate any of the TSB's about this issue any more and when I did mine I was told that repacking is not necessary by my instructor... but don't quote me

If you want to replace your rear bearings again, then go ahead install them out of the box. The come packed with a shipping grease which is exactly what that means. When you get the bearings, wash out the packing grease with a good brake cleaner and let them dry, then repack with a good quality synthetic grease like Amsoil (which I used) or what ever else you can find. I packed them by hand, real messy, wear gloves, and use a bowl, and make sure you pack them well, and they should last a long time, assuming they are installed properly and are a good quality bearing like Timken. Repack them. Members who have had them replaced and didn't have them repacked had to do it over in about 5,000 miles.
