Grounding the Cigarette Lighter Plug?

Hey guys,

I wonder if anyone has come across this problem before, or somehow has any experience in this type of issue. Whenever I use any sort of accessory whether it be my phone, ipod, whatever... and I am charging it + playing music.... there is lots of static/interference going on. I think it is due to poor ground somewhere... so was thinking to go ahead and run a ground wire from the cigarette lighter to the deck cage or elsewhere...

any ideas? comments? suggestions?
