There are only 2 Admins... Chris and Earl

Mods cant do crap user account wise. Only thread and post moderation.

There is a possiblity here that the user setup the account with an email address that he/she no longer uses. See, we dont know the full story, so coming here and griping, moaning, and complaining about it feels a bit too much like teen angst to me.

I have also sent 2 emails to the SVX admins email account. all to no avail. I don't even warrent an explaination? Or at least some service here? Im not even on the restricted user list. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed in the administration here and their unprofessionalism. If only for their lack of communication, let alone any other part of this that is possibly their doing.

First off I apologize for any issues with your account. I do not see any reason that it would not work. If you PM me your password (yes, password are invisible and encrypted..... even to admins) I will log into your account (as you and user permissions) to diagnose the reported issues. You are not on a ban list. You do have 189 messages in your PM box. The maximum for registered users is 200. It possible that at the time you had issue and or tried to PM someone, you were at the limit. This is the first time the reported issue got to me. I did just find an old post from December 11th from a moderator in the admins area. Please understand that the SVXWN does not pay my bills, it IS a bill and cost me and some others here many dollars to run and maintain. I have a total of 3 administrators (myself, ensteele, and Jim). Ensteele has been a godsend as an administrator here dealing with support issues and direct interaction with the members and general users here. Jim lurks from time to time, but he is always on the backend of the server updating code, managing the HUGE database, and performing a serious role of Security Administrator. The amount of attacks on the server, attempted break ins, and other security issues add up to about 7-10 hours of work for Jim on a weekly basis. Some people would be astonished by the pure volume of promiscuous attacks and break in attempts that the server survives on a daily basis. The admin email account has been flooded for many months now with spam, graphical spam, and tons of virus emails from day to day. Finding legitimate email in a sea of hundreds of other bogus messages has become a logistical nightmare. There is a web based ticket system in the works that will allow people to use webforms to report issues. This solves the problem of emails AND non-working PM's. Again, this is the first I have become aware of the issue.

Almost 6 years ago, I got frustrated with Yahoo and the SVX groups there. I stepped up to the plate with an offer to do it better. Instead of complaining about lack of features, the broken MSG 40 bug, and the added forced ADs every few pages, I built this clubhouse. I have worked diligently to accomplish what I feel was a better solution. I know I still have much more work to do, and I do what I can with the time and money I have. If you would be more than happy to "help" me with issues here, I would be more than happy to assist with fixing them. Please don't go out and air dirty laundry when not necessary. If that is your only motivation, then I suggest you step up to the plate and do what I did back in early 2001. You are invited to do it better. Personally, if I was charging for service here (like a business), I would be more than happy to refund any fees for services you were unable to use during the effected time. But this is not the case. If the SVXWN was my job, and paid my bills, I would be here 40 hours a week. Since it does not pay my bills, I do what I can around the hours I work at a job that does pay my bills (barely).

Again, if you wish me to diagnose your account, use your new account to PM me your password to your old account and I will be more than happy to find the problem and fix it.

Hi Chris

Not having heard from you in a while, it's good to see you back, Happy New Year.

As a mod, there was never any discussion about Zavikan's account or postings, so I figured there was no ban involved, which made it puzzling. Glad you are on the case to sort him out.

Zavikan, I am just admiring your silver car, Miss January '07

I've just bought a silver car myself, having secretly coveted one for years

Hi Ho Silver Away!!!

Joe

Chris, now that you are back looking into this problem, there are quite a few members including me who want to support the Network financially. As I understand it, there is not a dedicated or recognised PayPal account which would accept payments for the purpose. You need to set this up.

Also, somebody needs to take note of payments [not for tax purposes!! ], just so we know who has contributed. And who hasn't.

Can you set something up? The mods will look after the rest.

Joe

Joe,

Jim and I are just finishing the last steps on tracking as well as an identifier next to the users name to note "donating member" status.

Not saying that you personally bashed anyone or deleted threads. I'm just saying that i've seen more than one time how someone posts something and then ppl jump all over the person or get all sensitive and defensive. I've always had a tremendous respect for this place. Without it I would never have enjoyed 3 years of problem free driving .

It is necessary that you be more specific.

My feelings are that the network exhibits much goodwill. Before you say, "then ppl jump all over the person or get all sensitive and defensive." you should examine your own your own interpretation of each situation.

In respect of the recording of technical information, accuracy is paramount in the interest of members. In this respect I agree that diplomacy is essential.

Pffft

Chris you have a PM.

Hey, I was sick of wasting time emailing various people and AIM and MSN and Yahoo as well. Desided to take the public outcry approach to see what the heck was going on. I was begining to get paranoid that I was getting shunned or some crap.

As to the whole honey/stick comments made, keep in mind that while my post was sharp, I maintained dignity composure and maturity the entire time.

Also keep in mind I had already attempted contacting SEVERAL people. Sometimes numerous times.

I tried honey and was patient. Then I went for the publicity technique.

To those people who think this was beating a dog with a stick, then you have very very easy lives.

I think thats enough of this thread.

James

I'm with Joe on this. Most that use the site should contribute, at minimum, the cost of one magazine subscription per year.

Let us know when the system is ready. I for one, would be honored to be included as a contributing member.

About time Chris,

I recall mentioning years ago when some donated, that members should be identified as you now have in progress. At the time you were too soft of heart and your thinking was laudable, but the network has now grown to a point where all must see the light.

However it is still important for everyone to remember that you and others, will still be donating their time on an amateur basis. Thanks will remain due.
