tire question

what is the deal with the 55mm offset, what exactly is it. Is it like the camber of the alignment. I'm confused because I see people posting there tire size with a different offset? just wanted some clerification. to late right now to search anymore. thanks

Offset refers to the rims. Here is the famous TireRack sketch showing wheel offset.

The SVX has positive 55 mm offset which is higher than about 98% of the vehichles produced. The high offset limits your choice of rims what will fit the SVX. Its not necessary to stay at 55 mm if you buy an aftermarket wheel, but any rim with an offset lower than 38 mm will probably cause the tire to rub the fender (especially if a wide tire is used).

got to learn some time

Ok so the offset is the distance from the center of the tire to the inside of the rim or hub mount. Ok now another question so a 17in rim at say 7.5
( same style rim )could have more than one off set?

Rim manufacturers often make the same style/size rim in several different offsets.

Ok thats what i wanted to know, so then it is the bolt pattern that is the issue with not a lot of selection of rims

The low selection is due to the offset required. If you're willing to settle with a 38 mm offset, you'll find a pretty decent selection, but if you want an offset closer to the factory spec, the number of choices in rims goes way down.

As the offset gets further and further from the factory spec of 55 mm, an increase in brake-induced steering wheel pull and tramlining will be felt. If you don't drive aggressively, you may not notice it. Some of the pull can be removed by tinkering with wheel alignment settings, but its better to stay close to the factory wheel offset.
