I wouldn't argue that the rear wing on the Redline has no influence from Subaru. The first US STi had it, which was around the time the Redline was designed, so i'd say yes, it probably has SOMETHING to do with Subaru. |

I disagree with the rear diffuser comment. First if it didn't have an effect, I doubt subaru would put it on their "pride and joy". Second, you see them on almost every form of track race car, which means that most racers find that they do more harm then good. In fact, it most likely does far more than you think. I obviously don't have the time, nor knowledge to research how much downforce that provides.. Hell, its 4:30 in the morning and I still have a paper to write for my 8am class... However, average customer isn't going to be like "wow a diffuser... I'll buy it" therefor the only reason to do it, is that it adds to the cars performance. And as for "gm influencing Subaru" vs "Subaru influencing GM" I think its obvious that Subaru has done FAR MORE as far as changing GM's product line than GM has done for Subaru. Its Subaru that is making the cars GM wants to advertise and sell as its own, not the other way around. I honestly have yet to see any ACTUAL influence from GM into a Subaru car reach production (i'm not sure if the paddle shifter from the concept LGT made it into production... that was from the pontiac grandprix gt or whatever) Either way, those headlights do share very common lines, (and the spoiler came out on the subie before the redline) but other than the spoiler and the lights... I see NO common parts. For information on what the new STi will actually look like, check out Chiketkd's thread where he took the pictures.... Landshark made this thread to show what would make what he thinks is a hideous front end, to look much better

I know a little about aerodynamics. I'm certainly no expert, but I can say with some confidence that the 'diffuser' on the STi is little more than something to show your friends. Knowing what little I do, I just don't think that little bit is enough to break up the boundary layer under the car or create enough of a low-pressure zone to help at all. The rest of the car is not designed with the use of that diffuser in mind. Honestly, it probably does help a little - but I bet it's nothing you'd notice, ever. I'm not kidding. The effect is probably minimal. The car would have to generate hundreds of pounds of downforce before you'd notice a difference. And driving it on the street, you'd never, ever, ever be going fast enough. As for whether or not Subaru would put it on their car if it had no effect, that's ridiculous. There's a bigger reason to put it on - marketing.
