New alternative to tranny solution

Since My tranny is half dead, I was thinking this is the time for a awd conversion, There are many awd parts cars on the network, I would take all necessary parts needed and maybe put in a legacy turbo tranny or like chiketkd did a outback tranny, I would like to know, out of all the non svx trannies, which is the most strongest and reliable? I read that the legacy turbo is a good candidate, does this mean I have to get the rear differential along with the tranny? What does it mean to have a matching rear diff? Can I use the stock svx tranny? all these ratio's are confusing. I know that there is a rear diff crossmember which chiketkd told me, but what about my front crossmember, do I take out the one from the awd svx? Any input would be wonderful. Thanks all

Since you're also considering shorter geared fwd transmissions, maybe you could do a swap with an Impreza 4.11 trans that all the other fwd SVX owners will follow.

Transmissions from the 2.2L mid 90's Impreza sedans are always on sale on Ebay for ~$300. Plus your local junkyard(s) will probably have a couple...

Hey my cousin had a 93 impreza that he crashed back last june. Car has 80 k on it or so. The tranny is probably still good. The guy at the mechanics is waiting to part it out. Maybe we can give that a try?

Well ill give u some info on the car first. I think it has around 80 k or so...maybe even less. Its an L model impreza FWD tranny i think. Not sure if its AWD or not. He crashed the car in June of 2003. The mechanic that has the car wants to fix it and sell it or part it out. The car is sitting in rockland county and hasnt been moved since. Lemme know if you wanna go check it out ..i know where it is.

New alternative to tranny? I was thinking a flintstone mod might be a temporary fix.
