Quick Help Needed For Radio
Hey all, I can't access the svxdc install guide here at work and have an opportunity to get a pioneer x910bt for a great price, it is 6.2 in deep, and I need to know if it will fit and if the door will close, does anyone know?

Re: Quick Help Needed For Radio
crutchfield website says yes but it is a modified fit, only they don't say what modification is required but their site will say when one doesn't fit. Good luck and remember you can always put it up for sale if you change your mind.
Edit: Maybe they do say what is needed here is the installation instructions: Installation Details Modified Fit - Requires Modification Installation Details for your 1992 SVX » To install this product, you’ll have to modify your vehicle. » Use the brackets that came with your factory stereo to install your new receiver. » An installation kit is not required to install your new receiver. » A wiring harness is not available. You will need to splice into the factory wires. Last edited by sowise; 03-30-2010 at 08:14 AM. |

Re: Quick Help Needed For Radio
That's the same head unit I put in mine, found a wiring harness from a guy online along with great instructions, putting it all back together wasn't the easiest, but the result was def worth while!
This is the site I used: http://ae64.com/SVXharness.htm |

Sowise, Crutchfield is probably going to say you have to modify any deck you put in. Due to the radio cage, you have to take the mounting "sleeve" off of any deck you put in. Not really any true modification. Also, no offense, but I really don't trust what any website says about the SVX. I trust the people who actually have done installs/work on the SVX. Not trying to blast you at all (hope I don't come off that way), just pointing out the info. |

Just trying to give better info that I can by adding onto what you had said. Just if some other person is searching in the future and comes across this or someone else sees this thread, we don't want them to fully rely on Crutchfield |

Re: Quick Help Needed For Radio
I'm outraged! My site is a serious, technical site, not some pr0n site

Here's a good picture of the front from Crutchfield's (click on these thumbnails): Rear: A/V harness: Pioneer's AVIC-X910BT product page (with links to user and installation manuals). It looks like you'll need to notch the cage for the HU's USB cable. The other sockets might be so close to the bottom that you'll need to remove the entire rear of the cage (easy to do -- just drill out the four spot welds). The opening on the cage's rear frame is about 3/8" (9mm) smaller on each side than the outer dimensions of the cage. Picture: 262-06-CageReady.jpg As for being able to close the SVX's audio cover door, the face on that Alpine looks to be fairly low-profile. The volume knob doesn't appear to protrude very far, and it's not at the bottom edge (where the knobs on some WRX radios cause clearance issues with the rear of the door). Quote:
I've run into this before. They're a bit conservative on the maximum depth they think will fit in the SVX cage. They don't want to have the back edge of any of the HU's wire harness plugs protrude beyond the back. I think they want to allow enough clearance for you to fold the wires down/up/sideways before they exit the rear of the cage. In practice, there's from 1 to 2" space behind the bottom half of the cage, so most HUs don't have a problem. Now when a HU has a massive A/V harness (with lots of RCA jacks), like this AVIC, it will take some effort to stuff all of that into the openings behind and/or under the rear of the cage. Lately I've been recommending people tie a pull-string to a harness, thread the loose end out to either the driver's or passenger foot well. As you slide the cage into the dash, pull the string to retract all of the harness' slack into the rear openings (so the wires don't bunch up behind the cage and get sliced). You might also want to preemptively tape up all of the SVX's sharp edges back there. See my SVX Audio Install guide for more information and pictures. See this post for some concerns about a HU with a fold-down face.
