The Euro SVX... still trying to call the owner and his line is off all the time , I guess he is on vacation somewhere but I bet he will come back to Sharjah (UAE) before Ramadan festivities (mid Aug) and switch his line on back again

If SilverSpear #2 occurs, the only mods that are going to happen are:

1- Trans cooler.
2- Color (obliged becoz of registration issue we discussed the other day ).
3- Grille (because I HATE the waterfall design. Might upgrade to 97).

Other than that this car is gonna be restored entirely with OEM specs.

To be quite frank, I don't think it is a clean car. Check the comments below, there is a guy who checked it and noticed rust on the sunroof.

The only reason I am tempted to buy it is because it is a Euro SVX with heated seats, glass adjustable headlights, and maybe 4WS

I have the perfect bodyworks guy back home, he can do the impossible with cars, I am pretty confident about it. What worries me at that stage is the extent of mechanical damage (it has 250K Kms on its ODO, in HOT weather), God knows what is rotten inside it , especially that I am gonna drive it all the way from Sharjah in the UAE to Lebanon (3 days adventure )

But if I can get ahold of him, THIS CAR IS MINE!

Looking closely at the pics of the Polo, I believe it to be a factory facelift. Remember, the lower panels of an SVX were made plastic for a REALLY good reason. It's cheap and easy to update plastic panels. Subaru really didn't want to invest a lot in what had become a sales "Turkey". A quickie update could have carried it the full model cycle of 10yrs. But with only 600-odd cars sold in '97, the SVX fate was sealed.

All the plastics in this SVX appear to be redesigned. They carry the lowest line parallel to the ground. The spat look of the previous design is eliminated. This follows Subaru's design ethic as used in the late 90's Legacy, and Impreza.

Had I been part of Subaru's design group, I'd have argued for this exact type of facelift. Honestly though, I'd have used this first, as it's a touch more restrained. Then went extreme in a "gen 2" situation. Remember Subaru, at the time, was the automotive equivalent of sensible shoes.

As for my opinion of the design, I like it. Oh and Danny, I like your car too. It's over the top, in a way I probably wouldn't do, but it's STILL a cool car!

Thank you for the comments crazyhorse, appreciate it. A guy's taste 8 years ago is different than his taste when he reaches 30.

Hopefully when I get back, I am gonna redo the entire bodykit with a sleeker design to be accepted by almost everyone (except Joe ).

Again, do you think Subaru would redesign the SVX with cheap metal grilles in the bumper and between the headlights? No manufacturer accepts this and they usually do them in black plastic

I believe the pictures we are seeing here are of a car fitted with aftermarket body kit. There is no evidence to support that it may be a factory designed upgrade.

Japanese owners love body kits, they use the term "full aero" to describe a side skirt and front and rear bumper upgrade.

That, I believe, is what we are seeing here.

Regards carrying the lower line parallel to the ground, if you look at all the various design sketches for the SVX you will see that the lower body between the wheels has banana curves flowing to each wheel. In every design sketch, including the prototype with steroidal fenders.

So there is no way Subaru people produced such a kit [with the lower line parallel to the ground], it conflicts with the design ethos.

And Danny, if you redesign it sleek, I'll go with sleek, I like sleek. Blunt and bludgeon I dislike.

What is sleek to you Joe? Give me some examples of SVX panels like Steveby's side skirts, GTR rear spoiler, etc... lemme see if we are on the same page.

Would you accept the prototype SVX with a different rear spoiler?
