Aircon: Condenser to Drier pipe wanted

I have sprung a leak !
The short aluminium pipe that links the condenser to the drier has been rubbed through, it looks as if it fouled ever since it was built. I have posted a picture in my locker. The pressure switch is screwed in to a block half way down it, I dont need the switch, although I would take a pipe with one fitted.

If anyone has this piece it would easily post, please let me know.

I cant bring myself to ask a main dealer what it would cost, I could probably have one milled out of gold for less.

Regards
Arthur

Arthur,

The spares car mentioned in this forum from Greens should have that pipe.

As luck would have it, I am telephoning the chap in the morning to pay him for parts he has for me.

If that pipe is available, I will reserve it for you, and email you his contact details.

Prices he charged me for a good few parts was very reasonable.

OK?

Joe

Joe, thanks. I can get it from the US for $70 and amazingly for £55 from my local main dealer, I expected it to be over £100.

The plan is to actually get the pipe off the car this weekend. I have a pal who has a TIG welder and apparenly that will weld the stuff. Since it is only a crack it may do the trick for the cost of a Beer.

In any case please ask the chap how much he will want I may fallback on that if the weld fails.

My Forester back exhaust box is looking a bit rusty on the seams and I have just picked up an Impreza WRX box, taken off a new car with just delivery miles so they could fit a big pipe affair. Only £30, I love a bargain, I have yet to hear what the Forester sounds like with it on !

OK Arthur. I'll see if he still has it, and what's the price.

Small word of caution, if you don't mind. I know you know your stuff, performance-wise.

Your Forester is NA, whereas the WRX is turbo. If the back box is free-flowing, it may cause problems with your gas velocity, i.e. you might end up with less backpressure than is optimal to give good scavenging and good torque.

Could be totally wrong about this of course. With your cats and everything else still standard, that may be enough to keep back-pressure correct.

Just a thought, probably me being paranoid.

Joe

Hi Arthur.

If the s/h back box is not suitable, this link might be useful.

(I might be getting a PPP soon so mine could be available by Easter)

Joe, thanks. hmmm - I am not so sure it will matter, apart from sounding different. I would have though the cats would have been the dominant factor in limiting the flow. The engine management is fully mapped of course and fuel/ignition are controlled in relation to load and a few other inputs, so I would expect it will take care of itself. If not I can stick on ebay !

Andy, whats a PPP (not a personal pension plan) and I dont see a link.

Andy, prodrive mods looks interesting, if they dont shag the engine.
The other forum looks like a lot of cap on backwards speak. I like the comment that "£550 looks reasonable", I would agree if I was selling it.

Prodrive upgrades are warranty approved by Subaru and have a good reputation. The extra power shouldn't be a problem as the engine originates in the WRX

No need to bring Tony into this

Be nice to Tony!!

I heard you are not allowed to wear the cap on backwards until you have two or more subs fitted.

AND, you must have all dance music in the catalogue, no Johnny Mathis, no Leo Sayer, no John Denver.

Of course, this might just be another urban legend.

Forester Mods??

Anyway

mods would seem to be pointless when the 2.5XT does everything you might need in an estate car.

No?

Thumbs down

Arthur

No luck with the pipe from the car in Skipton.

The pipe is kinked.

Unfortunately the 2.5XT only comes in manual and 'er indoors can only cope with an auto so I need to do something to make up for the shortfall

I bet you it comes auto in the States.

These car marketers do weird and wonderful things, don't they?
