Dimensions of EJ engines and engine swap

Did anyone work with EJ engines? I'm curious as to the dimensions of the engines in case one wanted to make an engine swap on a non-subaru car.

I have very limited knowledge of mechanics but I assume the most important things to consider while making a swap is:

* Dimensions in the host bay and possibly air cooling
* Engine mounting points in the host bay
* Extramotor sensors (Only lambda sensors?)
* Harnesses / power delivery to the car's electrical components
* Existing transmission's ability to handle the power
* Effect on handling if weight of the new engine / transmission deviates from original.
* Remapping
* New fuel pump

I guess the marriage between transmission and engine is mostly a question of space and flywheel?

I was just getting this crazy idea that an underpowered and cheap sportscar could benefit from a proper Subaru engine!

Edit: I guess power delivery is Alternator->Battery->Fusebox->Subsystem so it doesn't really concern the swap itself? Or would there be a problem because the sensors need power?

What would be your primary concerns about an engine swap? I'm just doing a feasability study, so please discuss any challenges.

Re: Dimensions of EJ engines and engine swap

You may want to try doing a search. There was a guy on this forum who put an SVX engine in his older Porsche 911. Im sure he'd have some very valuable info. Also, maybe join a vanagon forum. Those guys have a ton of knowledge about swapping in Subaru engines.

A company called Kennedy Engineered Products makes a bellhousing adapter to mate a Subaru engine to an older VW or Porsche transmission.
