found my vibration(5spd)

gee...im not completely sure but maybe this would be making the banging noise i get on load ? I have to put some spacers in the tranny, the crossmember isnt low enough to accomodate teh shifter, shouldnt be to hard to fix i just have to get some time in this week to get it taken care of with my friend.

Phil,
Try putting a 3/16" spacer under the carrier bearing mounts, to lower the driveshaft in that area.
It'd be easy to do without much dissasembly.

Damn I was hoping you found the problem with my vibrating.

Did you do something different with the smallcar kit? I don't understand why it would be hitting esp. with the STI mount holding the tranny in place.

it just literally dosnt fit. All my parts are from an 03 forester, all i can think if is that they modified the shifter assy a bit, either that or my crosmember is holding the trans too high. Anyways ill let you guys know when i get it worked out, which will hopefully be tonight

Time for me to fess up.....

*swallowing pride*

I have also been battling a vibration. Mine is not related to the shifter. My vibration comes on suddenly just about 40 mph and does not change with speed. It was not there prior to the conversion and is not a wheel.

I have had it on the hoist, pulled all four wheels off etc etc. Vibration is still there. The driveline has been in the shop 3 times now. It checks out fine. No extreme JWAs maybe about 1 degree. Driveline shop "thinks" that the CV joint is worn out. But by the time I replace that I will have a 300.00 driveline that may not fix the problem.

I have tried shimming the transmission up and down to no effect.

Today I am picking up a nearly brand new driveline out of an H6 that my supplier *says* will work. Identical in everyway except maybe 2" longer in the front.....we will see.

phooyee

All I managed in doing was burning up the gas to go pick up the part. The two drivelines are way different.

Good!

On mine, at sixty you can push in the clutch and the vibration is better, but still there.

I could not see shimming the center because it would increase the angle that the CV has to work at. But I will give it a try. Thanks. Oh and about how far did you shim it?

It wouldn't be the driveshaft (u-joints) would it?

Just guessing here.

Phil,

Was your vibration similar to mine or was yours because the driveline was contacting the shifter?

U joints seem fine.....
