Anyone ever dismantled the throttle body?

On a scale of 1-to-nightmare, how bad of an idea is this? I have it sitting on the desk beside me, IACV and brackets removed and am looking at the throttle linkage. There are about 235 springs in the thing, all hooked to different bars and notches...

I want to clean it up and have it anodized gold to match the new intake flanges I'll be cutting on the CNC mill, but that requires removal of everything not aluminum (vacuum line fittings excepted).

Re: Anyone ever dismantled the throttle body?

Anyone? I'm thinking it's doable, just tricky. Something like taking apart a Rolex.

Re: Anyone ever dismantled the throttle body?

I think the Rolex analogy is a stretch . However, take many close-up pics of springs, mark everything you can, and just dont rush anything. You should be fine.

Taking it apart will be a breeze...it's putting back together that will be the challenge. Take lots of pictures as you go along...or do a video you can use as a reference it you get lost or stuck. Good luck.

Re: Anyone ever dismantled the throttle body?

Well I've got it 95% apart. Want to see some engineering insanity?

There are 42 pieces there, and a number of those could be broken down further. The only things left in the body itself are a little adjustable stop and the shaft that the butterflies slot into. I can't figure out how to remove that shaft without using more force than I'm comfortable with... One each side there are steel cap plates and you can see that one was installed and then the aluminum was dimpled around it to keep it in place.
