YT set a new world record in jumping.... and the Racer is even lighter now.

And SM (street mod) class has been renamed to Smoke Machines class...

Jumping a car or jumping to get out of the way

Smoke as in "smoke 'em up"?

FP -- isn't the Racer in FP

Think geyser.... and imagine being next to one as it goes off....

Fail Prepared was the Racer due to the Power Steering not being hooked up on Saturday and the clutch not being able to hold it every time you step on it... I had to clutch in and up-shift every time to get it to grip... But the Racer was 1st in its class!!! (it was the only one in its class)

As far as SM... read what OT said... "
1) YT let Bart (the engine killer) run his car while YT worked the corner....."

Are you serious. Powersteering is for PU$$IES who can't turn a freaking wheel. Removing it added .3 tenths to Dave and my times. If you can't drive a car without PS you might want to shop for a Buick. They have nice easy turn turn wheels.

As for the clutch, that clutch is brand new 0 miles installed by YT as we fried the other one just as quick. I guess 5 speed clutches simply can't handle the horsepower.

I sure hope any weight was taken off of the right areas rather than OT trying to raise his center of gravity. Oh and you need to remember that PS pump and bracket weigh in around the same as Jerry's dinner!

Re: Cumberland AX Sept 19 and 20.

Did you guys auto-x that thing without power steering? Maybe its due to the fact that it is also a different steering rack?

As far as I know the steering wheel is 13" so it doesn't make it easier to turn either.

And the weight that was lost... was due to the radiator going supernova. But don't fret - Blue Devil saved the day .

Re: Cumberland AX Sept 19 and 20.

Even my 4 year old knows that PS is nothing more than a grandma power robbing feature. Of course we raced it w/o PS and like I said once we removed it our times went down! The steering rack is most likely the same original rack that was in it a month ago.

Seriously we never had a steering issue simply because we got up to speed and stayed there. We had talked about going to an electrical pump such as the one out of the XT or maybe a saturn but really never had an issue without it aside from in the pits.

I can BENCH PRESS a small Buick!! I had to 'decide' if I was going to 'shift' or make the next gate!
One time I shifted and took the gate with me.

The smaller wheel made it a DIFFERENT car! I actually drove it to work 2 days on a dealer tag before I hit the tarmac.

The car is a BLAST to drive, but it is REALLY hard to steer and shift at the same time.

BTW I did post a 55.123 with (1) cone. (and a slipping clutch)

I had a chance to launch it 5 times on a "CLOSED course" over Labor day weekend. The clutch slipped on the first launch.
I backed down on all the rest of them.

I also had an issue with the 2nd to 3rd shift. 2 times, it jammed up and I had to drop back to second. (at the AX) Cost a couple seconds...

As we get used to each other, I'm sure the times will drop.

I have NO bad things to say about your race car!!
It was a PLEASURE to occupy the seat!

Now, we move FORWARD!!

Re: Cumberland AX Sept 19 and 20.

Made it home safe sound and with all cylinders moving freely

Tried driving home thinking worst thing that would happen i'd drive on a dead cylinder (thought it was a broken ring)

Well, all in all it spun a rod bearing. The lack of oiling to the cylinder caused severe blow-by while it was on the course. 90miles into my trip home I was able to confirm when it began knocking and I had to get a tow back to OT's. Installed another engine this afternoon and just got back.... It was real, it was fun, but I cannot say it was real fun

HMmmmm, if all the cylinders are moving freely ...

Well THATS your problem!

Its the pistons that are supposed to move.

Re: Cumberland AX Sept 19 and 20.

Heads off and confirmed my suspicion. #1 cyl wall is groved enough to be seen and felt to the touch. When I can I will split the block and confirm the rod bearing is spun but it is almost 100%
