Re: what is this??
Yeah, underneath the round cover is the fuel pump and sending unit for the gauge.

Re: what is this??
Dust and dirt can and will get anywhere on a car. There's a slight amount of space between the gas tank and trunk/floor panels and dirt just finds its way there and settles. And over the years it just builds up since it never gets washed.

Re: what is this??
Woah, this is awesome. So we don't have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump?

Re: what is this??
Considering that you need to remove the rear subframe to remove the tank... You better be thankful thats the case

Re: what is this??
So is something right in that area a part we could replace to fix our crazy gas gauges?

Re: what is this??
Yes, take that cap off, and the sending unit will come out with the pump. You can sometimes clean them off with carb cleaner and they will work, but you can also replace the sending unit with a new one for about $50. It also looks to me like there is only one sending unit, not two like on the Legacy?

Re: what is this??
Honda and VW both do that too, only it's under the rear seat bench.... that was part of VW's reasoning for the way the seat folds (bottom up and fw, back down... access in 3 seconds pending your car is clean).
It's nice to see this one is in the trunk, that way you don't have to smell it after working on it.... granted, then you would know if something went back together wrong |

Re: what is this??
Unless the PO was a idiot and put screws in the floor bottom for some unknown reason
And not just once, but twice
