Interesting CEL issue...

I had a hot start problem on SVXAPEALs 5MT 92, so I did the added start relay.
Works beautifully... 5+ hours of driving today and started great every time.
HOWEVER...
I can pull up to a stop light and push in the clutch and have the check engine light come on.
I will be sitting there with the clutch in and the rpms will drop slightly... then idle will pick up to around 1100.. and then back to normal... and the CEL pops on.
As soon as I release the clutch... in gear or in neutral, it goes out.

It isnt causing a problem... just a curious issue to have.

Jim,
Have you tried to pull codes from the ECU to see if it's actually storing one?

Yea, push in the clutch and you hear a relay clicking under the pass side of the dash.

I don't know how this has been connected, but surely here lies the source of your trouble.

Yea, my thoughts also.
CEL will be on, and as you ease the clutch out you hear the click at the same time the light goes out.

You will have to check with whoever did the installation.

P.S. Did this all start only after you installed the start relay

Yes, I installed the relay last night... and noticed it on the drive to NY today.

Exactly how did you install and connect the relay? What wiring did you alter?

Instructions in this thread. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...t=25362&page=2

Last post mentions rough running, CEL, and stalling.
He had it happen in neutral, I have my CEL with the clutch in... which should be activating the NSS.
Looks like related issues.

Please read the entire thread and understand the complications and problems involved. In particular note the comments by Beav concerning what is a make do fix.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=25362

There appears to be variations in the starting system circuitry, dependent on whether or not a security system is installed. The ignition switch, a starter interrupt relay and the inhibitor switch can be involved, as well as all the associated wiring and connections.

As I have pointed out in another thread and have been ridiculed accordingly, fitting a relay has not fixed the original fault.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...868#post509868

This fault has caused a drop in the voltage available to the starter solenoid. The fault could involve either resistance or a partial short circuit. The inhibitor switch would appear to be very suspect.

Until someone locates and identifies the fault, I regret that I have no more to offer on the subject.

P.S. Sorry you may have to copy and paste to browser.
