I want...I want...I want!!!

Seriously though, I've been tossing around the idea of a Forester XT instead of a Legacy 2.5GT. I plan on test driving both before buying. The 4.44 gears are just killer!

Yeah, I think the FXT is a better platform for power and versatility. It will probably be my next car, except I'm holding out for the FSTi.

265 HP and its got the highest gearing of any of the 6MTs!

One thing I noticed though is that the gross weight of the FSTi is listed as 1765 kg = 3883 lbs! What a pig. The USDM FXT is listed as 3225 lbs. Maybe there's a typo somewhere.

Good point!

A silver Forester XT zipped by me on the highway the other day (had hood scoop and larger exhaust - differentiate from Forester XS) and it must have been going over 100mph. That turbocharged 2.5L flat four sounded amazing...

If I get one, it'll have the cargo space for runs to the salvage yard/parts store to get stuff for my SVX!

Whoops. I screwed that up. I was initially looking at what was called "gross weight" which was 3882 lbs. I took another look at the FSTi specs, and the "vehicle weight" is listed as 1490 kg = 3278 lbs.

Last year I testdrove an XT down here in Savannah, GA... I LOVED IT!!! There was virtually NO TURBO LAG!! Actually raced a Mustang to about 50mph and walked all over him!!! If I had to get a new Subaru, it'd be a Forrester XT

Also rode in Porter's STi Killer Forester XT when he was working at Subaru of Gwinnett (Atlanta)... That thing was well into the 300hp range and was an absolute balst!!!

I love the wife's XT. Fast, fun to drive, lots of room, almost no turbo lag even with the automatic.

On the test drive just remember one thing - with an STI rear sway bar and some endlinks the body roll is virtually eliminated. (about $125 investment)

I was talking to a college kid today at the gas pump who was driving a silver '04 Forester XT. He had a bunch of STI badges/emblems on the car and said he'd upgraded the fuel, raised the boost, and added an intake and full 3" exhaust. Needless to say the thing looked "bad-arse" and was a real sleeper, as it didn't look very different from a standard XT:

One thing which was cool is that he knew my car was an SVX right away and complimented me on it. I could tell this kid knew his stuff about quirky Subarus - he said he chose the '04 XT over an '04 STI which is a darn good decision IMHO.

Some of you may be familiar with...

...the Car & Driver Cannonball One Lap of America. An '04 XT Sponsored by Subaru of America and Cobb Tuning ran in last year's competition. According to Cobb it had some relatively straight-forward bolt-on parts boosting output to 340hp.

It came third in the SUV/ Truck class behind a modded Ram 1500 and Ram SRT-10.

Some of results the car posted in temperatures that sometimes soared above 100 were:

1/4 mile 13.480
Skid pad 0.937g's

You can read up about the One Lap Competition here: http://www.onelapofamerica.com/

I'm really thiking about getting a pre-owned '04 in another year. With a 5spd and 4.444 gears, it'll be the perfect match to my n/a 4EAT SVX with soon to be installed 4.444 gears!
