Question 5mt almost done, BUT.....

so i have the 99wrx tranny in and the car moves!!...catch is the rear axles dont fit in the rear hubs so its FWD so, question to you all is the solution....do i replace the rear hub assembly? are there cv shafts that i can buy that fit the rear diff as well as the hub on the car now?

when i bought the car, it had 5mt from a supposed legacy turbo w/matchin diff however i couldnt find rear cv shafts that fit the diff...but most of all fit the hub just not the diff. i ended up buyin the 99wrx due to not knowing the year and model of the tranny/diff and the tranny wouldnt go into gear anyways. so now im stuck on the hub situation...the wrx spindles are just a lil smaller then the hub...

help please

Re: 5mt almost done, BUT.....

First, where did you get a 99 WRX tranny, they didn't come to the US till 2002...
and if it IS a US WRX tranny, you should be able to use the stock SVX rear diff and axles...

If it isn't, then you need to swap the SVX Rear LSD into the WRX rear Diff housing, then the SVX axles will work

Use the transmission model number and reference this chart to ID the FD ratio.

lol i ment impreza...99 impreza running gear...however im not sure if the rear end that was in the car was stock because there was already a transmission swap done to the car. i wasnt able to figure out the year and mode of it cause there was nothing to ID it except a small number S0096?

Just an Impreza, or an RS, or Outback Sport?

And isn't there a sticker with a number on it next to the starter hole?
That's the number you need to check it out.

honestly, im not too sure! the guy at the salvage yard just said impreza...not sure if he just said that or if its an outback sport or RS, so i guess im not helpin you help me

im thinkin if i could swap the hubs....? would that work? gettin whatever model that had the same hubs as the impreza, and switchin them with the ones that the svx came with...or would that mean a weaker cv shaft cause the splines are bigger on the svx then the impreza?

Re: 5mt almost done, BUT.....

The Impreza runs a different bolt pattern, so your wheels wouldn't work...
You just need to swap the gears in the rear diff, there is a write up in the how-to lockers...

Re: 5mt almost done, BUT.....

You need to know what you are running. Sounds like you have to take the rear diff apart and count the number of teeth on the ring & pinion. Running mismatched ratios will destroy your transmission in short order.

Re: 5mt almost done, BUT.....

Hello.

I jused the legacy 2,2diff on mine svx. And this also have the hub that was little smaler then the svx one. So i just take the hub off the svx cv shaft and replaced this whit the legacy one.

Mine svx had the 4.44auto tranny. And this had not the lsd diff. So this is way i dont chage the gear inside the diff. If i have had the lsd diff then i will chage the gear.

Hope you soon will have AWD.
