Unhappy Front brake caliper wobble

My front brake calipers are able to "wobble" if you push and pull on them - yes they are bolted up tight.

I'm pretty sure it's either the guide pin is worn and/or a bushing the guide pin fits in. Does anyone know where a replacement bushing can be found or a part number? I can't find anything on Subaruparts or 1stSubaru sites - maybe there isn't a bushing??

My last resort is to call a dealer. The nearest Subaru dealer to me is 80+ miles one way and they are most unfriendly on the phone. They really seem to be put out to talk to customers who don't already know the part number.

Make sure the guide pins are screwed in tight. Sometimes they come loose.

Front - 25 - 33 ft-lb
Rear - 16 - 23 ft-lb

though I don't know how you will get a torque wrench on it. It is not critical, just tighten them up with an end wrench and don't put too much muscle on it.

I have rebuilt front calipers sitting on the work bench, checked them at 32 ft lbs, one was more the other less, now at 32 fps,

Lee, if you get your new parts will you post again regarding the tightness of the pins and bushings?

The reason I ask is because I noticed this on mine before I bought it so the guy threw in a set of calipers with it. Even the new ones are very loose and the car they came off of has only 45k on it.

Common sense and comparison to other cars tell me that they need to be replaced. But then again they only have 45k on them. I took them off the parts car and I verified the mileage.

If they are meant to be this way then they are the sloppiest calipers I've ever seen.

I don't know the technical stuff on the callipers, but they are referred to as "Floating" design. Similar to Mercedes.

Sure enough the guide pins were loose. Right front required almost a half turn before coming tight, left about a quarter turn. Just had to guess as to torque since all I did was pull the wheel, peel back the rubber cover, and put a 17mm wrench on it.

The PO's "mechanic" touched a lot of things and everything I've looked at so far has been screwed up to some degree. There were new pads on the front - should have guessed.

Can't belive I've put this off for so long since it's such a simple fix (and the price was right too).

The torque on the pins is not critical - just snug them up so they are tight.

I discovered this the hard way on my rear brakes a few years ago - My pads wore very unevenly and I discovered the pin was loose.

The PO's mechanic should have checked, but I doubt if he actually loosened it. They really don't come loose too often.
