Thank God for the Shift Lock button!

Lately (for about a week or two) my shift releaser for when I press the brake hasn't been working consistently. It usually doesn't work at all when I first pull it out of park, but if I put it back into P and then try it'll work. Sometimes it works like normal, first try. Is this an *easy* fix? If not, forget it because it only takes a second to press the button. Glad it's not a 94+ model or I'd be out of a job...

I really have little clue, but since my inhibitor swtich recently died with strange symptoms let me offer a question that may help since the inhibitor switch tells the system which gear the transmission is in.

next time it does this, stop in reverse and see if the car will still turn over - if it does dead give away the inhibitor is bad.

Another bad inhibitor test. Put car in any forward gear, manual switch on or off. No change of behavior - bad inhibitor.
