What would be your opinion? Exhaust setup.

Hey guys, everyone's going fine?

I'm about to do a little tuneup to my SVX during the next weeks and I'm kind of bored of that damn buzzing noise from my resonator / heat sheild.

I was thinking of asking my mecanic to swap the stock resonator and every 3 cats for some straight tubes.

I know some of you are running a straight resonator and I did my search. I'm just wondering what would be the effect performance and noise wise if I remove everything except that big and heavy stock muffler.

You need to know that here in Canada we do not have these emission tests or things like that so it's pretty free for all.

I'd like to have that G35 or exotic car tone, not having a loud as hell daily driver.

Thank you very much for your help,
Cheers!

I think, without some kind of resonator in place of the stock stuff, you'll have just what you don't want, a loud daily driver.

Look over some of the custom exhaust setups, most have a resonator in them somewhere to keep the tone from being raspy. You could replace the resonator with a similar sized glass pack. Then replace the muffler with a flowmaster, or my favorite, a magnaflow. If I've read the threads right, a Camaro/Firebird unit fits nicely. You'll have a nice throaty growl, without that annoying ticked off bumble bee sound.
My SVX buzzes between 2500-3000 RPM. It's annoying, but I'll live with it for awhile.

Do what I have. It's the SVXfiles exhaust with Aero resonators, magnaflow cat, and flowmaster muffler. He has pictures in his locker under the name 'svxfiles'

From what I've heard running cat-less and removing the resonator will get you a nasty buzzing sound at certain RPM's.

And what do you mean Canada has no emmisions tests?!? I had to pass one when I bought my SVX, and I'll have to do one every two years until the car is 20 years old. After that it's exempt. Maybe in Quebec you don't have to worry about it, but Ontario and I'm pretty sure almost everywhere else do.

Yes, I'm from Quebec and we don't need to pass emission tests.

So you guys think that our three cats are limiting the noise alot?

94SubieSVX, for sure that exaust setup would be awesome! I'd love to have it. But well.. I don't feel like spending 600$ and more for an exhaust setup on that car. I love my SVX, but I prefer to put that money on my track car.

That's why I'm asking your advice about that cheap option.

I could maybe spend 100$ for a Magnaflow resonator and putting it instead of the OEM resonator and removing the three cats. I would keep the stock exhaust.

Like I said, I only want that nice growling tone, I don't want to pay 1000$ for that.

....Every cat and resonator essentially stops what is a very annoying noise from coming out of the svx's backside...

the muffler though...just makes it quiet. If you wanna go super cheap nice exhaust note, just cut some baffles out of the muffler...Or even just take it off and make a Y pipe out to the tips (though the second option may make the car a hair loud for a daily driver)

I love my exhaust. Sounds amazing. It cost about $450 for the parts after shopping around a bit. And $450 to get it fabbed up. It may be a little much for you, but if you want a nice growl this is the way to go. Maybe change to a 50series muffler instead of my 80series if you want. It's a little mellower tone.
