when the car is cold it operates under open loop system where the knock, MAF and 02 sensors comntrol the amount of fuel timing and air that go into the engine. When it is warm and under 25% throttle it goes into closed loop system where all these sensors mean close to nothing. With this information, you should be able to draw your own conclusion.

i may, but isn't the sense of closed meaning that it does not allow any outside signal in? that is why oiggybacks don't work well for our application. Once again, I might have it backwards.

Just like an electrical circuit it is considered 'closed' when the ciruit is completed. Turning a switch off 'opens' the circuit.
